I'll summarise it for you:
Napoleon was bad and stupid (as was every non-Russian general), historians don't know what they're doing and the Sun shines out of Kutuzov's every orifice.
There, I just saved you a year of your life, use it to read Les Miserables.

i'm at page 44, and i've only been introduced to a big part of the russian aristocracy, so not a really useful summary.
According to many people it's one of the greatest books, so whatever you say i will continue reading it. also a summary can't replace the actual book.

Wow, sense of humour failure.
I wasn't seriously suggesting that you don't read it, Tolstoy is indeed a very good writer, and in terms of reading a well written and engaging story there are few books I'd recommend more highly. That not one of the characters is likeable and yet the reader still feels very strongly for them when they meet with misfortune is a testament to Tolstoy's ability to write convincing and deep characters.

The main problem I had with the book was that Tolstoy goes off on very long, very dry discussions of history, in which he attempts to put across an opinion that is both historically absurd and always exactly the same, every time he makes the point. The second epilogue must be around 100 pages long and is just a reiteration of a point he'd already made several times, in painstaking detail earlier in the book.

For a while, I've been reading Tony Judt's Postwar, a history on Europe from 1945-2005, with a lot of focus on how Europe dealt with, or in some cases failed to, remove fascists from power, along with resistance movements.

Now that this recent semester of university is done, I'll return to reading Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore, which switches between the story of a 15-year-old boy running away from home to find his mother and sister, a mysterious government interview transcripts about an event in which a classroom of children fainted and have no memory of the incident, and the life of the child who woke up last and is an old man during the events of the book.

Oh, and if you're looking for a book that is maybe the ages 12-15 reading level, I really recommend Where the Streets had a Name by Randa Abdel-Fattah, which is basically this story about these Palestinian pre-teen trying to cross the border into Israel and bring back some dirt from her father's former ranch. I don't usually see a lot of stories written for a young English-speaking audience that are about the small-scale developments in the Arab-Israeli conflict within the past 15 years, have girl protagonists, or have kind of morals that the book opens to discussion, so, it's a rare find. If you want, I'd even recommend suggesting it to your school as a Summer reading book (if they do that sort of thing, because I feel like that is where the book may fit well. At times, the story places more focus on the journey and using the characters as an excuse to show it, but early on and near the end, there is a relatively good balance in this respect).
When life gives you lemons. . . You might as well shove 'em where the sun don't shine, because you sure as hell aren't ever going to see any lemonade.-Rob Thurman

I think you're incredibly mistaken. You must've read the wrong book. Ray Bradbury was a visionary in his field. He redefined Sci-Fi for the better.

The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914

A fascinating read if you ask me, although with a lot of names to keep track of.

Im currently reading Harry Turtledoves worldwar series
So far all The aliens are my favorite characters there very entertaining and there reactions to how we behave are Priceless at times.
The only human characters I truly enjoy are Heinrich Jagger Liu Han and Molotov. I would count the guy who was part of Doras crew but he only lasted two pages.
In ancient times, men built wonders, laid claim to the stars and sought to better themselves for the good of all. But we are much wiser now.

If the road is easy, the destination is worthless.

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.

I highly doubt my soul mate is living in Thailand and only a click away.

The Search for God and Guinness: A Biography of the Beer that Changed the World by Stephen Mansfield
(just started)

Mere Christianity by CS Lewis
(tried to find a Malcom Muggeridge book to read, but the local library got rid of them -- I read CS Lewis in middle school/jr high and found Mere Christianity a bit basic, but with maturity there is insightful depth that I had missed.)

Nexus by Ramez Naam
(Trans-Human Sci-fi, no opinion yet)

The Foxes of Harrow by Frank Yerby
(started last year, but put on back burner -- my grandfather enjoyed it but I never got around to reading it while he was still alive)

i can't read just one book at a time.

The second book in the Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony, "Bearing an Hourglass", and after that I will read the other 5 books after that.
"They that love beyond the world cannot be separated by it. Death cannot kill what never dies." ~William Penn
"Three for Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One ring to rule them all, One ring to find them,
One ring to rule them all and in the darkness bind them,
In the land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
"

You are you, and that's what makes you great. Never forget this and you won't lose hope.
