Uhh... lots of genres of music use harsh vocals, they tend to sound quite different from one-another and have very different aesthetics, with the exception of having harsh vocals. To lump everything with harsh vocals together makes you sound supremely ignorant. Also, most vocalists who use harsh vocals aren't that hard to understand, and rarely are much more difficult then pop singers who insist on showing of their vocal range and tricks over delivering vocals (Mariah Carey, this means you).

Additionally, rock doesn't use harsh vocals and metal is about as related to rock as rock is to blues.

Really.

Other then the odd bit for emphasis, they tend to avoid it.
Some alternative rock (grunge, nu metal) is the exception to the rule.

As for metal not being rock, metal tends to reject pop song structures in favour of movements and is much more likely embrace heptatonic scales instead of pentatonic scales. Metal doesn't sound like rock and doesn't really belong within that family.

Modern pop, though I'm somewhat sympathetic to Pakistani pop.

Country is awful. So is plastic punk and pop rock. Boybands are a scourge.

Hip hop is mind numbing, and so is most rap.

Ok, I´ll define better: Modern Metal/Punk/Rock and the related stuff minus some special exceptions. Some old songs that belong to genres that were predecessors to the genres I mentioned are actually quite good.
