Director Mario Monicelli, aged 95, killed himself last night. He was the last great director of late Neorealism and of classical Italian comedy (which isn't necessarily about laughing one's arse off, you know). I'll miss him and his movies.

Did you know him? Have you ever seen one of his movies? Which one did you like the best?
As for me, I'm quite partial to I soliti ignoti (Big Deal on Madonna Street), La Grande Guerra (The Great War), L'armata Brancaleone (For Love and Gold), Un borghese piccolo piccolo (An average little man) and I compagni (The Organizer).
