Gran Turismo 5 (and general GT discussion thread)

Postby Spredronia » Tue Nov 23, 2010 6:49 pm

Didn't see a thread on the subject, so I decided to make it.

Anyways, according to GTPlanet, GT5 has now been internationally released. It's still around six hours to November 24th though, so most of them may not see much. Besides, others have to wait until November 25th to get the GT goodness.

As for my opinions: the game is awesome. I'm not an MCR fan nor a hater, but in the US cutscene Forever(Go!) doesn't really fit in with the gameplay cutscenes. Not only that, but the Japanese variant has Moon Over The Castle in it, which just makes it seem THAT much more epic.

Anyways, GT5 is bound to get humongous scores, and I made this as a discussion thread. So, discuss already.

Some topics:
The Top Gear Test Track
The absurdly amount of things to do
Red Bull X1 Prototype. Nuff said.
The ratio of Premiums to Standards (around 200 to 800 respectively)
Other GT games and their cars

GENERAL RULES
This is the only place where capslock and bold will apply, because I would hate to see haters destroy this. Haters are gonna hate, but I DON'T want them to destroy this thread. Thus, general rules.
Rule 1: IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THIS GAME, OR PREFER FORZA TO IT, OR DON'T LIKE IT FOR ANY OTHER REASON, LEAVE. Simple, easy. Can't take the heat, get outta the kitchen. Same here: don't like Gran Turismo, don't post.
Rule 2: NO FLAMING. SERIOUSLY. Flaming is bad and as the OP I will continuously monitor this thread. Remember, you're being watched.
Rule 3: OTHER THAN THAT, HAVE FUN. Don't post if you don't like, and don't flame other people. If trolls post in this thread, I'll report them: just ignore them or Foe them if they're that annoying. As Cracked.com puts it, "If you hit the enter key, the troll automatically wins." Remember, they want attention, so don't give it to them.

As for me, I have GTPSP, but am still waiting to get a PS3 before I get Gran Turismo 5. Probably for my birthday. So yeah, I don't have it yet but I'm a big fan.

Either way, have fun, and discuss.

No Porsches?

Eh, don't have a PS3 anyway. I need to just satisfy myself with playing NFS: Hot Pursuit once I get it. :(

There's Porsches, but they're under the RUF tuner, I believe. (Which is still a nice tuner anyways).

I just don't understand what Porsche's beef with Polyphony is: they'll let Need for Speed use their cars, they'll let Forza use their cars, why not GT?
So, after using the wish-making machine that is Google, I found nothing. Either way, somebody inform me what the reason is. Which reminds me, new discussion topic:
The Top Gear Test Track
The absurdly large amount of things to do
Red Bull X1 Prototype. Nuff said.
The ratio of Premiums to Standards (around 200 to 800 respectively)
Other GT games and their cars
Why Porsche isn't in any of them
The intro and why it sucks/rocks

And NFS Hot Pursuit is also a nice game from what I've heard. As for the last topic... the intro is too damn long. And the US intro sucks. I'm not sure about anyone else, but Forever(Go!) doesn't exactly fit GT. Kaz, it was a huge mistake... not one that will compromise the game, but a mistake nontheless.

However, using Moon Over The Castle worked wonders in the JP game. It just made it fit the awesomeness of GT more.

And if all goes well, I may make it a general racing games discussion thread... or make another one.

It looks pretty awesome, It has been hotly anticipated, and I hope it lives up to expectation, after the long wait it had better be good... I've been a GT fan for ages now, It basically defined the racing genre for me since I started playing the original on PS1 like, 10 years ago, It was one of the first games I played as a young fella, So I definitely have high hopes for it.

It looks to have some interesting game modes in it from the trailer, Nascar, Kart racing, A WRC rally license (My favourite) which means all official cars :D And I'll have to compare it to the official WRC game which I got not so long ago. As well as the usual modes that we are used to, I'm liking the overall car collection in there too, which to say the least will be impressive and quite overwhelming for a game.

I will be reading the reviews for it over the next couple of weeks to see what kind of feedback its getting, I won't be rushing out to get it it just yet as money is tight for me atm, But it can only evade me for so long, I'll probably have bought it by christmas :)

I'll need to wait until my birthday, then when I recieve my PS3 go out and get it.
As for the modes:
I've seen LOTS of NASCARs. They've passed the torch to Activision, but until then they've made the most realistic NASCARs, period. As in, Activision can't hope to beat them, not to mention they can be raced against other cars since it's Gran frakking Turismo. As well, there's a Jeff Gordon NASCAR driving school.
Kart racing... you only get one kart, but it's still good. Plus, there are a few environments on the Course Maker made specific for karting. Also, GT5 almost never came out due to the fact it included flags of some sort.
Yep, WRC rally license means they've got LOTS of WRC rally cars. As well, Sebastian Loeb (Red Bull racing team driver for, I believe, their F1 and WRC cars) will be holding a Red Bull rally course.

I just hope DLC Special Events are included.
