So I've been working on a spot of 3d some some time now, and finally it's almost completed. A German Leopard 2a6 Main Battle Tank.

Here is a wireframe render, showing you the mesh.

What do you think? (It needs textured, I know...)

A very good model so far. And yes, the textures and materials would aid a great deal in defining it.

Also, if you want top notch details you might want to sculpt. Normal maps are great if you use them for minor XYC deformations whereas bumping only have one axis, but yes, depends on how plain or damaged you want the tank to appear I assume.

Thanks for the feedback. :) Think to start it's best to make it look pretty, then can ruin it if the need arises.

Excellent Leo

heh i haven't tried 3DSmax before.. can't really tell what can be done to "improve" the model .. hmm however maybe i'll suggest to make animation based on it .

BTW when you're about to add some feature on that model, like say.. GALIX active protection system , do you modify the model and add the feature or do you "re-built" the model from scratch with the feature planned from the beginning ?

hmm as for me.. i copied the model , put the copy in another layer and modify it there .

Thanks, glad you like :)

I have two things left to do, one of which is an animation. So, it is a good suggestion :) Need to texture it (trying to figure out the best way at the moment) and then do a brief animation.

Well, the two ways of adding a new feature to any object in 3dstudio max would be either to extrude a shape out, and then model away at that, or make the sub-object on its own, and then attach it to the main object and weld the verticies to fix it properly.
It depends on the shape of what you are fixing (would it be quicker this way or that?). The smoke launchers for instance, I made one on its own, then copied it, positioned them, then attached them to the turret object. After that I welded their vertecies to the turret appropriately, so to make them one object with the turret. Otherwise I'd have to make a perfect cylinder out of an extruded square rail, which would be needlessly complicated. Hope that sort of explains it...
