I watched a lot of Minecraft videos and I am quite interested in playing it at some point, but I am more inclined to design things that are not limited to the dimensions of blocks.

This thread is 7 years old...

god minecraft has gone far.

anyways, I love the game, it's fun, I love toying around with redstone and building bases and overproductive farms that could feed an entire server, I first heard about it at school, then I started watching videos on it, and now I play it extremely often.

It looks like shit and makes half mt old builds look like shit. The fact they hired someone specifically to redo all the textures is ridiculous.

Question is WHY did it happen?

The textures were perfectly fine.

Diamond and obsidian look awful, spruce wood lost its warm color, and birch looks too pixelated. I can't really say any of them are better than what we already have. The update is unnecessary.

However, I should also add that when they last changed the gravel texture, I absolutely hated it, and even slapped together a very small texture pack to bring back the old gravel texture. I stuck with that for several months, and only gave up when I upgraded to a better computer. Now I love the current gravel texture, and think that the old one is disgusting. It's really a matter of what you are used to looking at.

While the Textures bother me a bunch, right now my Friend who is a mapmaker is less than pleased with some of the other changes. A minor one is that they''re removing shorthand and numeric codes for switching game modes. No more when switching between survival and creative can you do /gamemode s or /gamemode 1. You have to type out creative or survival. The big change tho8hg that has him and most of his friends pissed is the fact they are removing the command /execute. /Execute is probably the most important command for mapmakers and removing it breaks literally every custom map out there.

Ob the bright side though he now does all his work for Windows 10 version so he doesn't have to deal with the Java devs constantly breaking everything. Apparently the Bedrock devs have this wondrous policy where they don't go around arbitrarily removing commonly used features because they think they might have something better and can't stand the thought of people doing things the old way.

They're replacing it with two separate commands that each do part of what /execute did.

I really like the diamond block texture. It looks like a gem now. I agree with Xisuma that the Emerald block looks kinda plastic. I also like the jungle wood upgrade. I'm not really still into the texture of Obsidian. It might be a downgrade. I hate Bricks so idc about what's done with those. I really want to see what he does with Glowstone though. It's not a very pleasing block.

With the top thing Jeb hired a guy to retexture everything in Minecraft so it fits a specific style or whatever.
With the second I got it secondhand from a Welsknight video.

I don't know off the top of my head. I just know that each does about half of what execute did but also a tiny bit more.

Yes Im Biop wrote:Wait is Java removing shit why I cant play old modpacks anymore?

These changes primarily affect custom maps. Mods break for other reasons.

1) New diamond block looks like shit and destroys the look of all my old builds with it.
2) Microsoft doesn't shit on Java as much as they don't care about it. It's mostly just being left behind as everything else switches over to Bedrock. They don't even consider it the main version of the game anymore and they kind of let the Java devs do their own thing.
The big issue Java has in my opinion is that that the Devs don't know when to quit. This Execute thing. They broke nearly every custom map currently out for java. Sure the new methods might in theory be better, but I'd be willing to bet money that in a year and a half these new methods are going to be scrapped and replaced with something different again breaking every custom map out there. Bedrock doesn't have that problem, the people working on Bedrock realize that they don't have anything to gain from breaking everything people have made and have worked with map makers to make sure that they don't break shit.

I'd probably be inclined to use the Diamond block in my Creative builds now, but that would be in a very specific context. I'm guessing the new Diamond Block design breaks the context of their use?

The strange part is that Mojang gains nothing by breaking nearly every command-driven map. Even the most amateur programmers appreciate the need for backward compatibility.
