No hostile mobs will spawn on peaceful, at least on PC. Not sure if that's the case on Xbox, but regardless, switching to peaceful erases all mobs and restarts their spawn timer.

I see. Once upon a time (before Beta 1.5, apparently), a bug allowed slimes to spawn in Peaceful mode. I guess since this has been fixed (I wouldn't know, since most of my playing is in Creative), my question is irrelevant.

Slime is a hostile mob? I believe they still spawn on my games while in Peace mode, though I play Technic most of the time. If I had a dime for every bug on Technic...

If you have mine craft I suggest downloading Tekkit. It makes it better.

But as for mine craft... AWESOME. Though I usually build fictitious cities of Bojikami.

I can never sit down and build a whole city. I guess I don't have the drive. I have tried several times to complete the Tekkit city challenge, always get to the second building and say the hell with it.

My current project is to use sponges on my server to help me construct long underwater tunnels connecting a myriad of off-coast islands on my server. That's been tedious, but fun.

There's nothing stopping you from building in the night.

Not to mention beds if you don't have the guts to build in what little danger there actually is at night.

You can build at night. But you must be vigilante. That's the fun. Or mine at night, and build at day.

Plus, if you're that afraid, than you can always sleep.

Has anyone played with the new update yet. Love it! witches, bats, carrots, potatoes, pumpkin pie even super excited to play tonight. I'll probably play on super flat because it's easier to find villages and then take their potatoes and carrots growing next to the wheat. Otherwise you have to kill an ass load of zombies for their rare drops.

I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, since I generally play on my server only, and given the Bukkit plugins I use, I'm waiting on a recommended build that supports 1.4.2 before putting the server back in production.

That's sad, but you have to be careful with the Witches, if you attack them they throw poisons at you and it's horrible, I either play normal minecraft or Yogbox.

It's only rushed if you're not paying attention to your surroundings. A sword and torches are all you really need. A bow helps but isn't vital to surviving.

Just pay attention and light everything up and boom, mobs will be gone or heavily reduced, leaving you with time to build at your leisure.

I've taken the plunge and bought Minecraft Pocket Edition. If I find myself spending considerable time playing on it, I'll be convinced to buy the PC version.

All I've done so far is build my first hidey hole, and got the basics set up; Bed, Stove, Crafting Table, and a few basic tools. I'm currently tunneling nearby my map's main cave looking for iron ore so I can upgrade all my tools and go mob hunting inside the nearby cave. It looks fun in there.

The first time I saw a creeper freaked me out a bit. I just ran away and hid in my hidey hole

I think once I've gotten the basics figured out, then I'll spend a good while trying out my own seeds to find a map I like, and start to do some serious building. Are there any good Minecraft resources out there for people who like to build and design? I've got the Wiki bookmarked, and the Minecraft Survive and Thrive series on Youtube.

Probably my only criticism so far is that the crafting is very basic in Pocket Edition. If they can bring in the "proper" crafting of the PC game, then I'll be happy.

The basics will save your life (seriously I stick to using stone and stockpile everything else until I'm ready to increase the difficulty to hard, mod the game, or head to the nether, AKA death realm). On another note, the pocket edition is smaller in scope than the xbox (I think), and if its not, you can fill a hundred maps on the PC and not be done with half the overworld, let alone the nether.

On an unrelated note, if anyone is looking for a skin, I make 'em, TG me and I might make one for you.
When we lose one we love, our bitterest tears are called forth by the memory of hours when we loved not enough. - Maurice Maeterlinck

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. - Washington Irving

It is easy to hate and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve; and bad things are very easy to get. - Confucius

Yeah, Dwarf Fortress is fun too. If the source code were freely available, I'd work on making it multiplayer; I'd make a server that runs a world continuously, then users would run their dwarf civilizations on the server using a client of sorts.

It would if it wasn't so insanely complicated. It takes a lot more effort to learn to play it and get used to it.

Survival got old fro me way back in beta. Creative mode is so much more useful for building. And that's what I play Minecraft for, the building.

There's already a (very basic) multiplayer setup running through telnet: DFTerm2. Unfortunately, development has ceased, but it's still working if you set up the new offsets properly (and there's even a couple of servers running).
