BBC: This World: Tea Party America

Postby Glorious Homeland » Sat Nov 06, 2010 4:29 pm

For British Eyes Only (due to technical limitations I can assure you)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... y_America/

It seems to be a pretty good documentary, as per usual with the "This World" series, but I wonder does anyone have any links to it for our international friends? Can't find it on youtube. It seems to be a good point of discussion regarding what the tea part is, what is believes, and how justified that is.

(I'll type some of it up here for the benefit of those who can't see it)

The documentary begins in Colorado, and the fascinating thing is that although the tea party activists there complain about how government policy equates to "socialism", and is taking their jobs. The destruction of the local coal industries is a main source of anger... by comparison in Britain the mining industry was mostly destroyed when socialism was ended by the conservative free market, not begun. Margaret thatcher's mass privatisations and deregulation led to "job for life" socialism being dealt a final blow, as it was fiscally unsustainable.

Andrew visits one tea party activist who talks about how Obama is a socialist, he hates America, he wants to control everyone's land and take everyone's income, how they're living under "tyranny".
Andrew then protests "Have you ever visited a country that is led by a tyrant?"
"Well, ... well, actually yes."
"In countries led by a tyrant, like Nazi Germany or Stalin's Russia, people do not have the freedom to talk or protest, people are afraid to have interviews like we are having here. If we were in a tyranny we would not be having this interview now. How can America be a tyranny when you have freedom of speech?"
The activist goes on, "But he wants to take away our right to arms..."
"Churchill was against private gun ownership, does that make him like Hitler or Stalin?"

Later on a Libertarian activist asks Andrew: " Why do you need a government, to tell you what to do?"

I'm itching to respond... BECAUSE WITHOUT DECENT SEX EDUCATION ACROSS THE NATION YOU HAVE TOO MANY TEENAGE PREGNANCIES BECAUSE YOU CAN'T TEACH YOUR OWN CHILDREN PROPERLY! THAT'S GOD-DAMN WHY! For one big example...

Edit: ROFL. He went on to say "Why should some 9-5 beurocrat in Washington tell you how to bring up your kids? What do they know on how you should bring up your kids?!" Ahhh.... funny that.

WHOOPS, WRONG FORUM!! Warp me to NSG please!
