Pardon? The Thing is the scariest movie I've seen, surpassing every other horror movie and game I've seen or played. The scene where it looks up at them, surrounded by humans, staring passively... Then lifts up it's malformed claw, opens it mouth, and screams an inhuman groan... *shudder*

I watched it when I was like thirteen or something, and it almost put me to sleep. It was more dull than anything.

Dull? The Thing can be accused of many things, but unless you really were not paying attention, dull is not a valid description of the movie.

Some suspense movies have the mental aspect to them .... there's a lot of that. When the eye candy was there, boy howdy, but it had it's strength in the suspense and suspicion.

Cannibal Holocaust. Look it up, the entire movie's on Google, if you feel so inclined.

Why is it scary for me? Cause that shit happens all the time.

EDIT: Oh, and cause there's actual actor mutilation in it.

I love classics: The Omen, The Exorcist, and The Shining are all great.

My favorite horror (though it's not deliberately frightening; it's not "true horror") is Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992 version). Fantastic film. Be watching it tomorrow.

Capitalism is always the answer. Whenever there's a problem in capitalism, you just need some more capitalism. If the solution isn't capitalism, then it's not really a problem. If your capitalism gets damaged, you just need to throw some capitalism on it and get on with your life.

I still say that it failed as a horror movie. If it can't even scare a child, then it's just not good.

I should mention that Pet Sematary is scarier as a parent. As is Poltergeist.

.... anyone mention Poultrygeist or Black Sheep?

Meh, most of these are weak. By being an artist that devotes a lot of time into stuff like this, most of it doesn't even phase me anymore. Sad really. I can't be scared by movies. :(

Even CH with it's real actor mutilations and depictions of actual animal cruelty?

Agreed.

Dead Space, while essentially a video-game retelling of The Thing IN SPACE, trails this by a close second. Sure, it's interactive (and not a movie), but... just...

Mmmm.... Dead Space had more in common I think with conventional horror. Something was either out to kill you and showing it, or not out to kill you and showing it. The Thing... Anyone could be the Thing. It definitely shared the body horror aspect though.

No, I understood it perfectly. It just wasn't scary. See, the point that is was trying to make was that this thing couldn't be easily detected and could hide in plain sight, waiting for the opportune moment to strike, correct? Pretty much, it's a vampire film but with aliens. Frankly, I'd rather watch the vampires. They tend to be scarier.

A vampire film? Vampires have conventional weaknesses, and are often quite easy to spot in such movies. This had more in common with 'The Invasion of the Body Snatchers' than any Vampire movie. You're really just proving my point that you didn't understand the movie.

[REC], hands down, was the scariest movie I've ever seen. Poltergeist and Arachnophobia are pretty great, too.

Fail. No they aren't. Unless you're looking at your Count Orlok-type vampires, the very point of a vampire is that they are nearly indistinguishable from humans. They blend right into society.

I remember there was a game for it, I think, or a game that was based of it but different title.

Was it called Peneumbra or something. I can't recall, but its fucking scary. SO, if the game scares me, I wonder what the movie will be like ._.

Then again, most movies don't really scare me unless they "surprise" me. I can just predict what will happen. It might disturb me, but no movie can make me not go to sleep. I will, however, check this movie out.
