Revolution 9: The Brix Shiteing Creepyness

Postby The Rich Port » Wed Oct 20, 2010 11:18 pm

Have any of you had the fortune of listening to The Beatles' "Revolution 9" off of The White Album?

Were any of you... DISTURBED by that track? Did you start hearing it in your sleep? Did it make you feel like you were being watched while listening to it? Have you started hearing voices, or seeing eyeshine where, frankly, there never was? Have you suffered panic attacks after any of these incidents? Have you peed/shit yourself because of any of these things?

If not, then I think it's about time I checked myself into the loony bin. If so, congratulations! Check yourself into a loony bin.

Ah, but seriously. Am I the only one who finds that track downright creepy?

Hi. Obviously I at least like the Beatles, and I completely agree, it is one of the creepiest songs I have ever heard. I have only listened to it twice, and I could feel myself slowly descending into madness each time. It should be used in psychological warfare.

The weirdest part of the song has to be when the people are screaming and the sound is phasered so it sounds like there is a crowd in your left ear which is taking its turn to bitch at the crowd stuck in your right ear. Sort of represents to me the polarization of education, "left brain vs. right brain", "artistic vs. scientific" bullshit.

I listened to it once.

It's the worst thing The Beatles have ever done.
I do not find it scary, however, merely ridiculous and irksome.
On the otherhand, "Revolution" (by which I mean the electric one., not the...frankly, boring regular one.) is pretty gosh durn good.

we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

Revolution 1 was musically pretty weak, agreed, I think though that it attached itself to the age more because it was slower and acoustic making it more appropriate to use in protest concerts. Essentially, the version has its place in time and deserved its place on the White Album, but Revolution had the balls and fury that really represents John and his real temperament -- he was actually a very angry man. The thing is, Revolution and Revolution 1 are arguing different things.. the movie, Across the Universe, actually got it correct, "Revolution" was against the radical hippie opposition to the war and "Revolution 1" was supporting it and advocating for change.

Admittedly, Yoko Ono is a pretentious cunt.

But I don't think you guys are giving the track the credit it deserves.

I actually agree with you about "Revolution 1". The next one was refined, to say. But WHY did you find it irksome and ridiculous? What didn't you like about it?

Um... Not sure I get what you're saying, Uni. After all, the lyrics never change in meaning. Unless, of course, you mean the ambience changes the meaningof the song. Which makes the hippies listening to it ignorant jagoffs, and all the more reason why I respect "Revolution 9"

... Wow. Why the hell did you show me all of those newfags first? You should have just posted THIS. This Penderecki fellow is amazing. Such atmosphere... I had goose bumps all over my arms.

These scare the crap out of me. It's kind of a throwback to "Revolution 9": radio is meant for music, but these stations aren't playing any.

Come, Come, Young Grasshopper. You have much to learn...

Most lyric sites miss this important detail..

I have been known to like some pretty weird music, but Revolution 9 is a bit shit. There were much better experimental pieces of music being made at the time.

I'm still not sure whether its worse than Ob La Di, Ob La Da though.
