If so, what did you think of it?

It was kinda stupid, though I also like it.

I'm not done reading it yet, i've read like 3/4 of it. I found it weird when he got The Strirrings, he had to take a pill to supress it. There's no room for lust in their utopian society.

Haven't read it, but I have a soft spot for dystopian fiction. Might give it a shot.

You should. All my life, I had seen the book everywhere, and never bothered to read it. Now my LA teacher assigned it to us, and I'm really liking it.

Meh. But then I don't find Lois Lowry to be particularly good (nor particularly bad, in fairness).

It was a rip off of 1984 and all the dystopian elements of Brave New World. It sucked. Not only that, but when I read it both in 5th and 6th grade, I found it bad. Even at such a young age I had read 1984 and found the Orwellian dystopia to be far, far superior. That, and for a dystopia, the ending was too cheery, leading me to believe that the ending was a lie.

Besides, the whole transfer of memory thing was cheesy, not to mention the fact that the government system neither tried very hard to brainwash nor make happy it's inhabitants. That, and it didn't even go that far into police state territory, either.

I read it, but I don't see why everybody was so upset about the ending. I don't understand why it's so anticlimactic, though. That's kind of annoying.

At the time I read it, I thought it glorified terrorism. The protagonist seemed for me to be a terrorist against a system which was not perfect, but atthat time seemed vastly superior to my circumstances.

I read it in middle school, but I was kind of biased against it even before I read it because I had people trying to drill it into my skull what a powerful book it was. (I had similar experiences with Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli and Tangerine by Edward Bloor.)

I read it a long time ago. Talk about watered down - it has nothing on real dystopian works.

Yeah, I found it strange. Sorry, it's been about 5 years since I read it, don't remember many details. I wanted to read the sequels, but haven't yet.
