Post Your Lyrics

Postby Meryuma » Tue Oct 19, 2010 5:19 pm

A spinoff from North Wiedna's thread about his song lyrics. This one's broader. Here, anyone can post their song lyrics or discuss those of others. Here's a song I wrote that I'm pretty proud of:

They bought out our city
They bought our town
When my house catches fire
I'm gonna watch it burn down
They bought out our city
They made it a state
I may be locked up now
But I'm inside the gate

[chorus]
Do you know if anything ever will change?
I looked in the mirror and my reflection was strange
Do you know if there's any other way?
I've got a lot of words in my mouth, but I've got nothing to say

They sold us destruction
They sold us our death
Now we're spending our money
Just to buy back our breath
They sold us destruction
They sold us our doom
You may think you're free now
But you're still locked in a room

[repeat chorus]

Satan

Fairies of hell,
Satan's own.
The angels that rain hellfire.
Upon the lands,
upon the hills,
cities ablazed,
and Satan is pleased.

He laughs and he laughs,
Aware that he killed them.
Whole villages,
women and children.
But then the evil,
and all the hate with it,
would only come from Satan.
Oh Satan,
Oh Satan,
Oh fuck, it's Satan.

He was Lucifer,
Proud and devine.
The first of the angels,
part of the shrine.
But he wanted God's power,
and that wouldn't do.
So he was punished,
but it worked for Satan, too.

So he fucked us all,
this God.
He sent the evils upon this land.
He fucked us all,
the demons run free,
because God willed it to be.
Willed it to be.
To be.

But it's not his fault.
Just not his fault.
He punishes us all, but it's not his fault.
He punished us all, but that's not the point.(x4)

... OR IS IT?! IS IT?!(x6)

Here's a real old one I never got around to completing.

"Well aren't you lovely"
I say to you numbly
And as the words slip I fill with shock
Half expecting you to mock
But you don't.
You look.
You say "Thank You", nodding.

Well then, I like your style.
Guess we need to do this
More than once in awhile

And I said to myself
So, break that ice, boy.
I think eachother
you'll both enjoy.

I want to see more. It's along the same lines as a crappy pop songs, but the lyrics... they're great! With the right instrumentation...

The Black Flag

(Post-Rocky, -Hardcorey intro)
Tonight, tonight
The flags are coming down
We’re finished chasing ideals
Tonight, tonight
We’ll watch the capitol fall
We’ll run it all
Tonight, tonight
Promises won’t be broken
Obligations will be made good
(Chorus)
We, the people
In order
To overthrow
The common defense
Establish
Street justice
Provide
For our own defense
Establish
The real
Values of liberty
We
Fly
The
Black
Flag
(Short, Post-Rocky bit)
(Verse)
We are, we are
Fighting for ourselves
Finding our true selves
We are, we are
Fighting to free ourselves
From hierarchy
We fight, we fight
To free ourselves
From classes
(Post-Rocky bit)
(Chorus)
Tonight
Nothing’s going wrong
We’re freeing
Ourselves
We’re tasting
Freedom
Truly for
The first time
This oligarchy
Hidden in the republic
Will
Fall
For
Ever
Finally
Down
(Verse riff)
[Movement 2: Aftermath]
(Post-Rocky bit, spoken word)
Within disorder, there is order
Within chaos, there is balance
Within freedom, there were shackles
Today, we cast the shackles out
(New verse riff, possibly ¾ thing, less aggressive, stretch words)
Tonight
The flags are
Coming down
We all will
Fly the
Banner
The Black Flag
Anarchy
Shall reign
Supreme
Nothing
Can stop
It now
(Fade out)
(Build up)
[Movement 3: Deceit]
(Downtempo Hardcore, close to Post-Hardcore, think Envy)
Bloodshed
Ruins
Gunshots
Smoke in
The distance
The blood
Being drawn
Factions
Fighting
Vying
For control
The broken doors
The shattered windows
The shattered
Remains of
What once was
The broken
Bonds
Betrayal
Blood
In the water
(Post-Rocky bit, spoken word)
Extreme scenarios bring about extreme solutions
Sometimes the solutions create the problems
The life raft rushed into creation
Without test
Without reservation
Just drowned us all
(Long, Post-Rock instrumental)
[Possibly end here if it’s too bloated]
[Movement 4: Recitation]
(Melodic uptempo Hardcore, think “Fury” by Nasum)
We can’t believe it now
Everything is gone
All the things we fought for
Are smoldered and burnt
Just like the old standards
And the capitols
Just like the wastelands
Of an atomic bomb
The strongest won’t survive
Only the organized
Manipulation runs rampant
Just like in the days before
We foolishly trusted
In
The
Good
Of
Men…

The outline of a 9-14 minute composition I'm writing, complete with notes and directions. Basically lyrics I wrote down in about 15 minutes so I wouldn't lose the ideas I had going, it's a rough draft.

I was sitting on my couch
watching some TV
Saw some guy speaking his mind,
But I didn't agree, I go on.
And I ignore what he says.

But goddamn I really hate that guy.
What a racist bastard, hope that he dies.
But I go on.
The differences remain.

Next morning I was watching TV.
Found the same guy facing prison sentence.
and that just,
Because he spoke his mind.
That's when I thought...

You don't have to agree with him.
Can't we all just go on?
What kind of country is this,
Where one who thinks differently,
gets punished for what he thinks?

You don't have to agree with him.
Can't we all just go on?
Tell me what good is democracy when,
You get punished for what you think.

They say they protect the nation
Say that hate speech will only breed hate.
But what good is a nation where,
you get punished for what you think?

you get punished for what you think?

I know the song may sound weird but trust me, it's actually possible to make it sound melodical.
My nation is not like my nation page at all, it contradicts itself, we don't EVER eat kangaroos, that's just very sad. Also vegetarianism is compulsory yet it still says it's the nation's favourite main course and all and stuff.

It's by far the longest thing I've ever written and far from finished, probably hardly makes sense without the accompanying music as well.
