I've been told by multiple people that John Dies at the End is similar and better... so I didn't pick it up...

I read it, but I wasn't all that taken with it. All the typographical razzle-dazzle couldn't hide the flaws, especially the poor writing in the main narrator's story. It was worth a look though.
