So i'm a little addicted to this game, anyone else tried it yet?
I just can't help myself, it's like an infinite version of lego with daft monsters. And i loved lego.

My friends been linking me youtube videos but I haven't played it. It seems like it would be a huge time sink to build the world... Have you tried playing it on a server?

Yeah it does have some glitchyness but it is in alpha stage.
The only really big one to worry about is the boat in the water, or maybe being trapped in sand cubes. :p
It's fun though, and i think it's free to download a version of it somewhere too.

oh yeah one hell of a time sink, i haven't tried a server yet, i don't know any IPs that aren't survival servers and i'm not into that thang. I can't wait until the multiplayer is working properly though.
It's got potential to be great, hell it kinda is at the moment. and according to a podcast it's sales have surpassed Starcraft 2 sales  .

good thing is it saves really quickly and easily so even if you're at work or something i'm sure you could do it too if you felt like risking your job. :p

I played it before it was online, multiplayer, you could save maps, and all you could do was fly around and click mine blocks.

It was better that way. It had a simplistic fun. Now it's just a really bad sandbox game that tries too hard to be GMod.

Digging holes straight down to the bottom of the earth and then climbing back up that hole using TNT blocks is epic fun. Yes, I use INVedit.

Some of the things people have created are pretty immense though, imho i think it's an addictive sandbox game.

lol TNT
lots of fun with that stuff, but it goes really fast (no pun intended).

Wolohanistan wrote:How's the learning curve? I've wanted to try this for a while.

If you just start the game without looking at the online wiki it will seem overwhelming.

But it's pretty simple, after learning how to start your first hut and getting the hang of crafting it's plain sailing.
The things you will have to watch out for as it's still in Alpha stage is the bugs, it's not too bad for me at the moment. Water can still be a bitch, especially in boats (make sure to carry a spare boat at all times if you're going to use it because they can get stuck and break really easily).
The enemies (mobs) can appear out of nowhere btw and they spawn at night.

There is a free version. and there is a pre-order version which notch is working on at the moment.
I think it's worth it to pay, but having the free version out is a good idea anyways in case people don't like the game they don't need to lose money over it.

Is it a one-time payment, or some ridiculous pay-for-each-new-update thing?

the free to play is basically a sandbox, you break blocks, some of which you can craft into tools and such.
you can then use those blocks to build a shelter and stuff.

It's better explained in the minecraft wiki really.
see a couple of youtube vids on it for starter stuff if you're still unsure, some of em are quite interesting.

btw the game is in alpha stage so don't expect any manuals in it.
