ROTTEN POLL.

You need a "decade-ism is kinda stupid" option.

Depends on the Genre of music.

For Pure Rock and Roll: late 1960's- mid 1970's.
Rap: Mid 1980's, mid 1990's and mid 2000's.
Country: 1950's-early 60's and early 90's.
Metal: Mid 1970's to late 1980's.
Alternative Rock: early 1990's and mid 2000's.
Pop: Early-mid 1980's and early 2000's.
Soul: late 1950's to late 1970's.
Jazz: 1920's and early 1930's.
Classical: Mid 1750's.
Techno: Late 90's-early 2000s.

Overall: the 1980's had the best mix of the genres.

Most decades have an interesting genre, but I wouldn't say one was "best" overall.

Some notables are blues, swing, big band, rock 'n' roll (particularly that which emphasized bass) and motown.

I'd say 70s, Heavy Metal and classic rock were king
80s was good too with Metallica and such
I like the mainstream rap from the 90s too, but rap I can never get into like metal when I'm really in the mood for it

If I had to pick a decade I would pick 1968-1978, so there isn't a poll option for that. Though I suspect it is pretty much always the decade that covers your early teens until your early twenties for most people.

1960s, 2000s, maybe 2010s, and some of the 1990s. that's where the good music is. Of course, though, there are some good songs in the 1970s and 1980s, but I know of no songs from the 1950s.

I seem to have a thing for years ending in seven. The best points for me were 1967 (Are You Experienced, Aretha Franklin, Sgt Pepper's, The Doors, the first Pink Floyd singles, Small Faces, Velvet Underground & Nico, the Who), 1977 (Punk and post-punk explode thanks to the Clash, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Television and Wire, Bowie and Iggy in Berlin, Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder lay the foundations for modern electronic music) and 1987 (Pixies, the Smiths and REM build the foundations for indie rock, Sign 'O' the Times, Sonic Youth perfect their sound, Appetite for Destruction, XTC and Spacemen 3 make psychedelic cool again, the Joshua Tree, and old school rap peaks with Eric B. & Rakim).

I like the 1440-50s myself - the emergence of the independent bass voice and the first great flowering of the Cyclic Mass make for some great stuff emerging from England. One only has to hear the Missa Caput or one of Walter Frye's masses to see the influence they had on subsequent music as well as their own high merits.
