Good singer, no doubt, but I've heard many better. Truly great showman.

Asking if Michael Jackson is a good singer is like asking if the Pope is Catholic. Sure, they may both do some inappropriate things with kids, but the answer is still obvious: yes. Michael Jackson was one of the greatest most influential artists of the era. Even if you don't like him or his music, you can't argue that he didn't made a significant impact on the music industry.

"Singer" I'm not so sure about. His voice was expressive but I'm not sure he always hit the notes.

Great dancer, I won't dispute that.

But he was really messed-up. I don't think we should applaud parents for pushing their kids as hard as he was pushed, into a particular career. There's a fine line between helping a talented child to find a career from a young age (which can be good), and closing out their other options. The Jackson family were way over that line.

Singer/songwriter/performer. The total package is impressive, but I think we'd be a lot less impressed by his voice if he was just a stand-at-the-mike-and-sing-covers kind of singer.

Well, yeah, I pretty much just clumped it all together. His dancing and performing are just as important as his actual singing.

Am I the only one that thinks it's ridiculous that no one even really talked about him anymore, except for the occasional pedophile joke, and then he dies and suddenly everyone loves him?

No, you're not. That's exactly what I think. It's really annoying how all of a sudden he dies, then every cross eyed goofball and their aunt makes a hero out of him. You even see little kids now talking about him like he's wonderful. :palm: And I don't even see anyone denying the fact that this only happened after his death. In life he was only mocked by most.

Did you just try to hijack this thread?!

But in all honesty, I liked him more when he was a kid... Classic music videos though. Good dancer. Not all in to his music as an adult.

Exactly. I'll admit there were a few songs that I wouldn't change if they happened to start playing for one reason or another, but he was 100% irrelevant to my life, and to the lives of pretty much everyone else, until he died. Oh well, not like this is the first time this has happened.

I will admit that his death was pretty sad, and too early though =( That doesn't make me an instant superfan though when I never cared about him before ha ha

I find MJ hard to listen to, but I can see why others like it. Pity his death was blown way out of proportion...

Where I live, MJ fans were crazy and rabid before he died... I've seen no real difference in his popularity where I live except for in the media. Johnny Cash, on the other hand... :palm:

Then you must live in loonville. I'd still be urged to call bullshit because I never saw such thing. The same thing happened to Johnny Cash, just nowhere near the same magnitude. The same thing happened to Elvis and a lot of other singers. The rabble just aren't comfortable constructing an idol to worship until the vessel they're supposed to represent dies. That's a fact.

I must say, MJ was a great MUSICIAN, but not a great singer. He made (yes, he helped writing/producing/mixing his music) well-made, new sounding pop. He was a odd person, but most famous people seem to get odd after a while, don't you think?

I hate most things of the pop world, but MJ is the exception. Thriller, Beat It... I'm not a big fan, but he was pretty good. I can list him under my list of "Bands That I Don't Especially Like But Still Deserve Praise And Fame."
