"Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get..."

Very famous movie, widely regarded as fairly good. So what do y'all think? I'm watching it right now. Personally, I think it's excellent. Strange maybe, but I love it. Your opinions?

It's my second/third favourite movie of all time (next to Mad Max 2) I love almost everything about it...
And so it was, that I had never changed.

Honestly, I hate it. Mainly because Jenny is a bitch for taking advantage of Forrest over and over and over and over.

I hated Jenny, loved the movie. I tear up every time I watch Forrest's moms death scene.

Jenny was probably the most realistic character in the movie - a girl with a fucked up childhood that went on to do a fuckton of drugs and whore herself out during the 70s.
The rest was just ridiculous.
Forrest Gump - a mentally challenged kid from the South named after a KKK founder who managed to be at the forefront of pretty much EVERY historical occurrence over three decades
Some random guy - the WHITE head of the Black Panther Party of DC
Lt Dan - I don't even know. He was fairly realistic but just being attached to Gump for so much of the movie blows it.

I thought the Cigarette Smoking Mans' 'box of chocolate' quote was better :P But I enjoyed the movie, it was very nice :)

Ah here it is:

"Like is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while there's a . . . a peanut butter cup or a . . . English toffee. But they're gone too fast and taste . . . fleeting. So you end up with nothing but... broken bits filled with hardened jelly and teeth- shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those then . . . all you got left is a . . . is an empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers."

I don't think Jenny was bad, I mean she did bad things and screwed Forrest over a ton (but hey what woman doesn't screw over a man), but that was the point of the movie. A girl making her mistakes and returning to a friend she really loved all along. She was essential to the movie and how it was suppose to flow.

There's a LOT of good quotes though:

Sgt: GUMP! What is your sole purpose in this army?

FG: To whatever to tell me to do drill sergeant?

Sgt: Correct! You must have a damn IQ of 180 Pvt. Gump!

I remember saying something like that to my teacher once

Great movie, Love the sound track, loved the history...
yes Jenny was a bitch, but he adored her and loved her no matter what. He did everything for her, and in the end she dies and he is stuck with a kid that she was too ashamed to tell him until on her death bed.

Funny thing is..I get teased all the time because when i was younger there was a kid in braces just like gump..only thing was he was bullying me..So what did i do, Pushed him flat on his back with his legs stuck up in the air waving like a turtle that cant flip back over on his shell. Down side was i ended up getting beat up by a bunch of kids with lunch boxes after that :( I will forever be teased as to Run Forrest Run!!! lol....:P

In what way was Forrest Gump marketed as non-fiction? What are you, 5? It's a surreal bittersweet comedy film. There was nothing realistic about it and there wasn't supposed to be anything realistic about it. Anybody with a bit of sense can see that.

Yes, a movie that was set in American history exactly was totally obviously fiction and not meant to look like non-fiction at all.

I thought it was overrated. OK, but still had the cheesy hollywood fumes surrounding it. I'm also not a big fan of Tom Hanks, but it's nothing personal, same goes for any hollywood star that sticks around forever. At least Keanu Reeves has finally disappeared, for now.
