Maybe because outward appearance means nothing when it comes to music. You should judge based on sound, not appearance.

I'm trying to think of "Soft Rock" bands with talent, and I really can't think of any. Also, Metal draws a ton of influence from Classical and Jazz, utilizing a lot of the same scales. Quite a few Metal musicians have the talent to perform Classical music.

*Nods* Randy Rhoads wanted to attend college to learn to professionally compose music, and I hear he was a rather good classical guitarist. To bad he died before his time...

Cliff Burton was a classically trained pianist.

I know of quite a few Metal musicians that are avid fans of Avant-Garde music as well, some of which have even composed Avant-Garde.

You guys are beyond silly. There is no such thing as "The best musical genre" because musical choice is subjective. It's an opinion, not fact.

True. But I guess having an opinion is what makes these dicussion fun! If everything was a fact imagine what the world would be like. However I do see your point. :)

T'would link to pages noting my own metal favorites, but I'm too lazy. Suffice to say that CM and REAL Glaser's points are sufficiently reinforced by ANYTHING that Mr. Scott "Wino" Weinrich has done (The Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan, The Hidden Hand, Wino, or Shrinebuilder), by Sleep, Electric Wizard (although that one may be just my opinion), or The Sword. Or Mastodon, or Iron Maiden, or Saxon (listening to "Wheels of Steel" as I write this), or Black Sabbath, or Deep Purple, or Thin Lizzy, or Therion (symphonic metal further proves above points about plenty of ability to do things classically), ISIS, or Armored Saint. Among others.
