Never really understood why people are just posting that they saw a film without any kind of indication of what they thought of it.

Agreed with this. Most people do that in this thread. It always feels weird to me. Telling me you saw "This" without saying anything about it isn't going to convince me to watch the movie or something.

The Iceman

6/10 I guess. It was too watered down. I guess accurately a portraying a wife-beating murderous contract killer is too much to expect, so the unpleasant parts were left out to not have a title character no one would like.

I hate watered down movies, or aspects of movies (The rape scene in The Lovely Bones comes to mind. Dug the movie but after hearing more about the source material I don't like it as much)

Scary Movie 5.

Was definitely very funny. There were some moments I laughed my ass off.

Lone Survivor, which I saw a week or two ago and was absolutely amazing.

Then there was Captain Philips two days ago, which was another jaw dropping movie.

I've chosen not to include You're Next on this list...

It would have been a lot more interesting if it portrayed a murderous psychopath's psychosis and instability, without making any attempts for compromise or painting a nicer picture. Ichi the Killer and Romper Stomper worked great from that.

(I realize I'm not a compulsive NSGer/F7er, just feel like putting this opinion out there.)

Just saw Oblivion at home.

Most likely going to be one of those movies I watch once, and once is more than enough. Thought it started promising, then got weird. Yes it plays a good mind game on the viewer, but…

(Warning: contains plot details.)
…if I'd shelled out a ton to see this in a theater, I wouldn't want to walk out thinking about being cloned thousands of times by an alien computer that gets just enough right for their plan to work but just about everything else wrong.

Since I follow some science topics, the Titan comments made me go "huh," yes it's had regular coverage since probes radar-mapped the surface and landed on it, but it would take a heck of a lot for that place to ever be habitable. Yes, it's a Sci-Fi movie so the rules and facts have to be bent a bit, but it really seemed a bit off.

I thought there were way too many rip-offs/borrowing of things from other movies: Star Wars, Independence Day, The Matrix, even the old TV show Dark Angel. Really, the entire time I felt like "I've seen this all before."

Oh, and calling the thing the "Tet" makes me think of something else entirely; they may as well have gone all the way and borrowed from NS as well by recreating society through only a copy of the NSG forum.

The Great Gatsby (2013 Version)

Fairly good. Better than I really expected, anyway. Knowing sorta what it was about (Never read The Great Gatsby) before watching it, I didn't have a lot of interest, but my mom wanted to watch a movie and so did I, so...The first quarter or so of the movie was...interesting. Felt like one big Jay-Z dance music video or something. But it was fairly artistically done party scenes, though I was beginning to get bored with the first quarter and was worried it was going to keep going down that route. But it ended up getting better, and I enjoyed it decently.

However, Spiderman was a boring actor as usual. He wasn't exactly bad so much as I swear he has no range as an actor at all and it's like he's playing the same role every movie. The girl who plays Daisy (Her name escapes me right now. Seen her in a few movies) didn't really get much of anything to do in the movie other than prance around and look pretty (Which, I'll admit, she does), and I actually thought Leonardo DiCaprio himself was the highlight of the film. I felt like he portrayed Gatsby pretty superbly. The little things he did came off as being really good in my eyes, and I was quite impressed with his performance. More so than anyone else.

Overall it was worth the watch. I was gonna give it a 7 but after discussing it more I think I'd give it a 6.5

Extra credits for their use of Hearts a Mess by Gotye (From his previous album, which I find to be quite a bit better than his newest, though I do like both), because not only did it work well for the movie, it's a good song.

I was referring to the "You're Next" they didn't seem to want to talk.

Never seen any of those.

Most movies are a lot more interesting if they accurately portray stuff instead of sugarcoating it, even if said content can be...disturbing to view. I know there's the reasoning for The Lovely Bones that Saoirse Ronan was only, like, 14 during filming, but still...There's been people younger than that doing controversial scenes fine.

The second half of Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2.

Okay, this was unintentionally hilarious at times. So it wasn't completely horrible. But the movie does kind of give you a giant middle finger at the end, so I don't recommend it except as a popcorn flick.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

I've been on a Middle-Earth overload lately. I'm excited for the Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor game, I'm recently bought the books which I've been wanting to read for sometime, and then I watched LotR, as well as having seen both Hobbit films recently.

Anyway, little I think needs to be said about Return of the King that hasn't been said already. It is massive and epic on a scale very rarely reached by cinema, often I'd assume due to budget, whilst still nailing the head on the small, individual character moments and interactions. Although, after watching it, I have to say, I don't really like Frodo. I find him rather annoying to be entirely honest. Martin Freemans Bilbo is a far better character than Elijah Woods Frodo. Way more likeable.

Still, Return of the King is a fantastic film that gets full marks, 10/10, although I don't really like giving numbered scores.

Fruitvale Station.

God, really good movie (aside from a few odd moments in the beginning) but...infuriating.

I liked Kick-Ass 2, although I don't think it was as good as the first one.

Last film I watched was The Good, the Bad, the Weird, a Korean Western (!) inspired by The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I picked it up for £2.99 on Play as I'd seen a couple of the director's other films which I really liked (A Tale of Two Sisters - psychological horror [8/10] and A Bittersweet Life - gangster/noir [9.5/10]).

I really enjoyed it, it had a lot of really well choreographed action sequences, some good comedic elements, the lead actors were really good and it was beautifully shot:

It's about 2hr15min, but it doesn't feel like a long film. The only real flaw is that there isn't too much of a plot, although it's not really necessary in an action/adventure film like this anyway... Overall I'd give it 8.5/10

On a side note, I found out today the director (Kim Jee-woon) made his US directorial debut last year with The Last Stand, which I saw a couple of weeks ago and also enjoyed in a mindless action kind of way [7/10]
