If I recall correctly, the last film I watched was En kongelig affære (A Royal Affair). It was extraordinary.

Lucy

I think the movie could've avoided the whole 10 percent myth and take more of it's time. The characters aren't really likeable, either. It's just silly fun, I'd give it 6/10.

They Drive by Night (1940), with George Raft, Humphrey Bogart, Ann Sheridan, and Ida Lupino.

I was a bit disappointed that a huge chunk of the plot was copied directly from Bordertown, but with a cast like that there's no way I couldn't like it.

That whole concept is what turned me off of that movie, because the whole "10% of our brain" thing or whatever has been proven to be bullshit

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of even having the other 90% of brain capacity? It's like using a top of the line gaming computer to play the standard Windows games.

Someone in the gaming thread said they actually knew someone who had a high end PC and only played Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft.

Also false. All parts of the brain show some level of activity, even when you're asleep.
The only time a part of the brain is entirely inactive is when you're severely brain damaged.

That said, I thought the premise of Lucy was workable in other ways. It didn't execute very well.
Compare to, say, Limitless. Similar concept, better execution. Still not a great movie, but much more entertaining, IMO.

I just saw Ex Machina. Brilliant film.
Well-paced, and I thought it handled the philosophical issues surrounding AI quite well.

Last two days I've watched Mystery Men and The Princess Bride. The latter is much better than the former but MM is still worth a look.

So, random question since the topic came up... am I in the minority thinking Lucy was better than Limitless? I didn't dislike Limitless, but I didn't find it as entertaining as Lucy.

Last night I watched Locke on Netflix. I was in the mood for something to watch while tired and getting ready for bed, and a film that involves nothing but Tom Hardy talking to people over the phone while driving down the M6 seemed perfect. I was not disappointed. Tom Hardy showed his capability as an actor very well as usual despite the constraints placed upon him, and the story was surprisingly engaging. ★★★★☆

The Interview

it's unfortunate that it got cancelled. It's very funny and entertaining. I'd give it 8/10.

Lather and Nothing Else

A short film based on the short story by Hernando Tellez.

I'm assuming short films count.
