Yeah, I really liked it when it I first saw it during GCSE English - it was all cool guns and action and shit, then I tried watching it again a couple of years back and realised it was just shouting. Lots and lots of shouting. With horrendously bad acting (except Pete Postlethwaite, of course - the man's a legend).

I might watch the modern dress version of Hamlet set in New York tonight, see if that is any better.

Pompeii

I saw Pompeii last night. I kept thinking, "Hey, I've seen this before in a slightly different way in Gladiator."

The one with Ethan Hawke? I think it works better than Romeo + Juliet; it's not the best version of Hamlet, but it's worth a watch.

Have you seen the Ian McKellen Richard III from 1995? It's made its way pretty high up my watch list recently, and wondering how much effort I should put into getting a copy.

Meh, I liked Pompeii better than Gladiator. Don't get me wrong -- Gladiator's a great film -- but it's kind of a downer, too.

Evil dolls are tough to pull off. IMO, the best I've seen is from an old British anthology horror film called "Dead of Night" which might have been the first movie to do the evil ventriloquist (sp?) dummy thing.

I haven't but I will keep my eye out for it. I have only recently got over the dislike of Shakespeare that school instilled in me.

Welcome to Dongmakgol (2005)

A great Korean-made film about the Korean War that blends together many genres. Unlike most modern war films, which are usually relentlessly dark (visually, if not also in content), "Dongmakgol" is very colorful and bright. "Tae Guk Gi" is the better action film, but I think I like this one better overall.

For the record, you spelled ventriloquist right.

Annabelle wasn't terrible, but it was too slow-paced to be all that scary... a bit of speed and maybe a few more good scares would've made it a lot better.

I dunno. It's good for some mindless entertainment but I don't think of it as anything special. It has 2 good actors in it, though.

Rocky Horror Picture Show.

And all I can say about that is, "WTF?"

"Why is self-control, autonomy, such a threat to authority? Because the person who controls himself, who is his own master, has no need for an authority to be his master. But that is a fatuous answer, for those who are satisfied to mind their own business do not aspire to become authorities." ~ Thomas Szasz

Finally gave in and watched Breakfast at Tiffany's, a favourite book of mine though I have always avoided the film because I just could never see Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly. Still think that way having seen it, though George Peppard was much better than I expected. But they still ruined it by making it a rom com with a happy ending, taking all the heart out of the story.

I had to watch it for English as a related text along with the book, you do not realise how much my teacher agrees with your point about them changing the ending to a more positive one. She would try her damndest not to rant about it and when it came to assessment time I wouldn't be surprised that those who argued the book being better would have scored higher.

Return of daimaijin. Definitely more samurai drama than monster movie, so your opinion may vary on whether that's a good thing or not, but an improvement on the original, which was good.
