Johnny English Reborn (2011). Rosamund Pike and Gilligan Anderson are so beautiful.

some shallow "fucked up family with psychological issues" type movie, I wouldn't suggest it.

It helps that's she's played by Mandy Moore. I always had a childhood crush on her.

The Pink Panther 2. Gods, I hate Inspector Clouseau. The cartoon is way better to the half assed movies. Only highlights: Jean Reno and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Finishing up Kagemusha (1980) on Netflix. I really wish they had RAN on there. Akira Kurosawa is a master of the silver screen. A Cinematic Giant.

Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart

An interesting approach to an animated movie. The main character, a boy named Jack, had his heart "frozen" or something at birth due to his mother being out in the cold or something, and she brought him somewhere to this girl who replaced his heart with a cuckoo clock. Yup, not weird at all. That girl then became his mother, and set him a few rules, like never falling in love because it is bad for his heart. Of course, he doesn't exactly listen, instantly falling for a girl the minute he sees her, but that's more going into describing the whole story.

It was very artistically interesting with the bizarre animations that occurred and whatnot. And I don't tend to like musicals, but this one was quite interesting. The music itself had a huge range. There was hip-hop ish stuff, freaking punk music, mellow stuff, whatever. It all sounded very varied, so as a music lover, I of course dug that part highly. And as someone who loves unique styles of animations, the animation part was definitely a part for me to love. The plot was also decent for what it was, but I wouldn't say the plot itself was the strong point. More of the rest of the movie was. And the main character seemed rather depressed throughout the entire movie...Which is certainly interesting for an animated movie (Though it was pointed out that freaking Winnie the Pooh has a character with depression)

Overall I liked it quite a bit for an animated movie. I'd give it like a 8/10

Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet from 1968. The visuals are amazing and the acting's not bad, either. Surprisingly, most of the cast is still alive, too.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

If a lot of movies dragged out in the middle, this dragged out in the end. The rest of it is a fun adventure, though. I'd give it 9/10.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only contention is the ending, in which everything stops after the kiss to Acacia and Jack scales up, using snowflakes as stepping stones. Rather anti-climactic to me but overall, the movie is incredibly lovely and worth seeing.

I've been having a very good experience with Europa productions with Canal+. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec was also a 10 IMO.

Saw a couple of obscure horror flicks yesterday.

The Irrefutable Truth About Demons: Featuring a possibly pre-LOTR Karl Urban, this strange but interesting little movie from New Zealand is pretty good... if you can keep track of potentially indecipherable New Zealand accents and don't have an insect phobia (although it does deliver on gore in a couple of scenes, its most disgusting scenes all involve cockroaches). At any rate, it does nothing to dissuade me from thinking that Karl Urban is a very underrated actor. 8/10

Asylum Days: An actress (Deborah Zoe, who I had never seen before but might be mildly famous) is abducted by her obsessed fan's ex-con brother (C. Thomas Howell, terrifyingly convincing as a complete motherfucking psycho). Secrets stacked on top of secrets unfold, one of which (toward the end) isn't even really followed up on. The actress can see the ghosts of children who died in an orphanage fire she survived (and may or may not have set), adding to the already intense level of creepiness. It's one of those wait-for-the-gore-till-the-end kind of movies, and doesn't really provide much even then, but unless you're a hardcore gorehound you'll realize, like I did, that this kind of movie is actually even scarier. 8.5/10

That's because it was a young cast. Olivia Hussey was only 16 when they made it.

Been on a minor Pixar kick lately, so watched Cars on Monday.

It's ok, I guess, but I find it really hard to care about any of the characters when they're talking cars (especially when the main character is voiced by Owen Wilson). I'd say it's by far the worst Pixar film I've seen (haven't seen Cars 2, but seen the rest), and although it's not really a bad film, it is disappointing when compared to the rest of their work.

I was fine with Cars. As for Cars 2, don't watch it. It represents everything gone wrong with children's films.
