I just finished Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War in study hall. Once again, great movie, great performance by Jang Dong-gun.

Most Korean movies are, especially their war movies. Nothing like the usual war. movies pushed out in the states. Not saying all of them are bad of course, but nothing like what Korea does.

fighting in Pyongyang when the South's army advances through with the tanks. That looks like a real warzone

That was one of the greatest war scenes I've seen in a while. However I think My Way and its portrayal of the Battle of Khalkin Gol was a bit better. Maybe a bit too overblown at times, but still.

Thats the movie based on that Korean fella who fought for three different armies right? Never seen it myself but i heard it was not that good overall but who knows, i might like it.

Yeah. It is decent enough but it is easy to see the many flaws in it. Overall I didn't personally mind it though. They take a lot of liberties with the story as well.

If you haven't seen The Front Line though, that is without a doubt the best war movie I have personally seen. Silmido is a close second though.

Blade Runner is one of my all-time favorite films.

Along with a certain Kubrick film you're fond of, I think it shows what science fiction movies can do to show stories and ideas other genres can't.

Not just one.

And yes, science fiction has so many possibilities in it, so when a movie takes good advantage of it then it is able to tell stories based on deep philosophical or theoretical things that cannot be observed in our world.

There were earlier versions of the speech in Peoples' draft screenplays; one included the sentence "I rode on the back decks of a blinker and watched c-beams glitter in the dark, near the Tanhauser Gate"[5] In his autobiography, Hauer said he merely cut the original scripted speech by several lines, adding only "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain"[6] although the original script, displayed during the documentary, before Hauer's rewrite, does not mention "Tannhäuser Gate"

I've heard a lot about how good the Korean film market is. I saw one Korean film I can't remember that well, and if it was anything to go off of, it was really quite interesting.

Also, that little Korean girl in the Pacific Rim movie? Holy shit she was one of the best actors in that film.

You mean the girl in the flashback/dream sequence where she's being chased by a Kaiju? Yup, definitely.

Just re-watched Alien. Watching it again with a better understanding of the movie really makes everything better. It's one of the first movies I'd watched, so the movie has points for nostalgia. The characters are very life-like, and the Alien is simply awesome. I'd give it 10/10, but it could drop to 9/10.

Something like that, yeah. Considering that a small scene like that, to this day, is still one of the noteworthy highlights of Pacific Rim to me, must certainly mean that she really did do great acting wise if I'm still taking note of THAT scene of all things in Pacific Rim.

Just re-watched Alien. Watching it again with a better understanding of the movie really makes everything better. It's one of the first movies I'd watched, so the movie has points for nostalgia. I need to watch the Alien movies...Only thing related to Alien we have is Alien: Isolation, a horror video game...

Tae Guk Gi is great. I'm also really fond of "Joint Security Area", which isn't really a war movie per se. It's been called the Korean answer to "A Few Good Men".

The Chinese are making pretty good war movies these days too. The Japanese made a few great ones back in the 50s ("Fires On the Plain" being probably one of the most depressing war films you'd ever see).

I'd like to see some Vietnamese ones, but I can never find any that are subtitled.

Seriously though, THAT'S the main scene I remember from the movie, solely because of the child's fantastic acting in it. Honestly I'd probably have liked the movie more if it wasn't just, you know, solely monsters Vs Robots and focused more on stuff like that. But eh, the movie never really intended to take itself seriously (Or at least I freaking hope not), so it fulfilled that, I just personally prefer something else.

Really? It seemed like any other "kid running away" scene I've seen in quite some time. Nothing about her acting seemed particular remarkable at all. Rather run-of-the-mill I thought. And compared to some of the "robot v Kaiju" action it barely flutters on the radar.

Also, Big Hero 6. Really enjoyed it, love how Baymax was portrayed.
