Finally saw The Fighter. I knew Christian Bale was in it, but didn't realize who he was playing until about half way through the move. An amazing performace on his part!

Batte: Los Angeles. And it sucked.

I have V For Vendetta and Edward Scissorhands on my desk, but I'm not particularly driven to pop them in my PS3.

Why would we kill you? Those are good movies. I am taking a film class right now, and my group is analyzing and giving a presentation on a scene from the first movie.

Both amusingly odd.

The Adjustment Bureau and Sucker Punch, in reverse order.

Adjustment Bureau was...kind of dorky and had a kind of Wong Kar Wai romanticism without the weird quirk that makes his films work.

Sucker Punch, geek cheesecake? Fetish film for the Comic-con crowd? (I stole the reference, so I linked the review. Also, that face she's making? The whole movie. Except when she cries, then just more so.) Actual grrrrl power? Convoluted failed attempt to tap the kind of complex relationships between female sexuality, shame, power, society, the male gaze, and fantasy that was dealt with a bit better in Sam Keith's The Maxx comic book? A movie that kind of made me mad because throughout the entire film, instead of enjoying the genre blending action sequences it forced me to try and remember Laura Mulvey's essay Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema.

Which, by way of example, is why you probably shouldn't watch movies with someone who has a film degree.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.
