Watched Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels yesterday as well as Snatch. I'd forgotten how good Guy Ritchie films are.

Metropolis (1927). A rather unusual movie, to say the least. Brigitte Helm gave a great performance in a dual role, and some of the special effects alone make it worth watching.

The John Wayne/John Ford cavalry trilogy (Fort Apache/She Wore a Yellow Ribbon/Rio Grande). I can't tell you how much I absolutely love these movies.

Hmm... lots of catching up to do... where to begin? At the beginning, I suppose.

Assault On Precinct 13 (1970...something): Very early John Carpenter, with some nice claustrophobic tension-building, a couple of good action sequences and better performances than you'd expect from a cast of mostly total unknowns who even where they're vaguely recognizable are far from A-listers. Shows the promise Carpenter later delivered on in classics like Halloween, The Thing and Big Trouble In Little China, though it's slightly inferior to all three of those. 9.2/10

Million Dollar Arm: Typical feel-good sports movie that hits every cliche in the book but is skillfully done enough to make them feel new just because there's an Indian spin on them. I found myself greatly enjoying it despite the deja vu, though I could've done without the puking scenes. 9.3/10

X-Men: Days Of Future Past: One of my least favorite tropes -- "We have to save the villain" -- ruined this one for me. Would've been a much better film had Charles and company endorsed Trask's assassination instead of trying to prevent it. Also, since when is sending people back in time one of Shadowcat's abilities? I'll admit I haven't read every issue of the comic, but I'm pretty sure walking through walls (and, occasionally, people) is the extent of her mutant power... big canon snafu there. Still, it's some of the best acting you're going to see in a superhero movie and the special effects and action sequences are first-rate, so it's not without redeeming qualities. From a purely technical filmmaking standpoint, it's great to have Bryan Singer back at the helm... now if only he could write the scripts, too. 8/10
