Mama.

Utterly disappointed. What is the point of a story about a protagonist with no ability to overcome adversity?

Here are some question from the film:

Why was the father running away?
Why was the father suddenly frustrated with the daughters?
Did he know where the cabin was?
Was the cabin the ghosts home when she was alive?
If so, why was it so well furnished?
If not, why was she there?
Why was the father going to kill his daughter?
Why did the ghost kill the father?
What was the relevance of the cherry pits when we later see the youngest eating moths? Obviously they did not survive on cherries alone?
What was the relevance of moths?
Why did the ghost appear from a vagina in the wall?
Why was there even a question of custody for the girls?
Why were the girls emaciated while in the cabin but well fed and nourished when adopted? This suggests that some time has passed since their ordeal. If so, then why was the younger daughter still acting like an animal after so much time?
Why was new mama willing to forsake her life with the rock band for the sake of her man and his nieces upset when her man acknowledged the importance of those nieces to him?
Why was the skeptic doctor suddenly convinced of supernatural existence having not yet perceived the ghost?
Why was the old man in drag "concerned about child abuse" over bruises on girls who had been surviving like animals for 5 years? Moreover, why was he "concerned about child abuse" over bruises on children after having raised children of his own? Was he unaware of how easily children bruise? Had he ever actually encountered a child before?
Why did the uncle wander around in the woods for days on end after finding the bridge from his dream?
Why did the dad beg his brother to "save his girls" when he was willing to kill them in his brothers dream?
Why was the superstitious new mama suddenly a skeptic after having perceived the ghost on several occasions?
Why was the old man in drag possessed?
How did the old man in drag get to the cabin?
Why was new mama suddenly attached to the eldest daughter?
Why was the eldest daughter suddenly attached to new mama?
How am I supposed to feel empathy from a mass murdering ghost who suddenly receives a bag of baby bones.... only to cast those bones away?
Why did she cast those bones away?
Why didn't she kill new mama and the uncle when she had been willing to kill so many others throughout the movie?
Why did the ghost explode into a cloud of moths?
Why did the not ghost younger daughter also explode into a cloud of moths?

The end result is that without a story of growth and experience in a film, it's difficult for the audience to connect. Moreover, a cartoon dead lady is just not frightening... not even when she moves cartoony-fast. "Jump-scare" tactics are NOT scary, they're surprising.

My advice? This could have been an amazing movie! The scenes with the girls acting like animals were genuinely suspenseful and well directed. There should not have been a supernatural creature in this movie. That removes all suspense from the movie. There was no ability for the protagonist, the main character, to grow or overcome that which opposes him. The "mama" aspect should have been emphasized as a creation of the girls imagination as a survival method, just as the doctor suggested. This could have been a suspenseful and genuinely frightening movie about the extremes to which a human being is willing to forsake their humanity for survival and the redemption found in the affection of extended family.

Instead, it was crap.

It depends what you mean, I have watched lots of parts of movies.

I never have the attention span to be able to commit myself to watch a whole movie.

Last movie(parts of): The Far Country (1954-1955)
Last movie(all of it): I can't remember it.

Green Street. (Green Street:Hooligans in the US.)

Brilliant movie. It has amazing brutal, gritty fight scenes, and blends it perfectly with the emotional side of the violence.

Blame it on Fidel, a French film about a nine year-old girl whose parents become radical leftists during the 1970's, and how she copes with the changes their new beliefs and manner of living bring about. I really liked it.

Gangster Squad. I sort of stopped paying attention and just looked at the clothes and the cars, figuring out when the movie took place by what cars there were (Oh, a XK-120, must be at least 1948...) and trying to figure out what was up with the weird way that Josh Brolin pronounced "Packard". Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling look so young it gave the whole thing a Bugsy Malone vibe. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Sounds like an interesting film, I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Elite Squad. It's a Brazilian film about a SWAT-like force called BOPE, who's job is to fight the drug dealers in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. I'd definitely recommend it.

Winter's Bone, which was incredible. I'm thinking that Jennifer Lawrence deserved Best Actress that year. She's just insanely talented.

"Eppie was a creature of endless claims and ever-growing desires, seeking and loving sunshine, and living sounds, and living movements; making trial of everything, with trust in new joy, and stirring the human kindness in all eyes that looked on her[...]The gold had asked that he should sit weaving longer and longer, deafened and blinded more and more to all things except the monotony of his loom and the repetition of his web; but Eppie called him away from his weaving, and made him think all its pauses a holiday, reawakening his senses with her fresh life, even to the old winter-flies that came crawling forth in the early spring sunshine, and warming him into joy because she had joy." - George Eliot, Silas Marner

The Taking of Pelham 123. The original, not the very mediocre re-make with John Travolta.

Iron Sky.

Pretty interesting social analysis for what seemed on the surface to be a hilariously-premised sci-fi B-movie otherwise.

THAT was a great movie.

I think the last one I saw was Les Mis. Too much singing. And so few of them were actually good singers.
