I'll be honest, no one in the triple-A games industry really likes archiving: they avoid it in order to try and brush anything negative about them under the rug. But they cannot hide everything bad about themselves forever, because I still remember the SimCity 2013 debacle, with always-online DRM and city sizes no larger than a village.

The Borderlands movie isn't doing well, due to the levels of predictability: in my opinion, making movies based on video games is a very high-risk endeavour due to the loss of the most important thing in video games: interactivity.

Yeah, no. Interactivity is not the issue.

The issue(s) are: The horrible casting (50 something Cate Blanchett as Lilith and Kevin Hart as a badass soldier), the blatant Guardians Of The Galaxy copycat vibe, the bland villain, turning Tiny Tina into a helpless MacGuffin, the lame jokes, the bad action, etc.

Never liked Tiny Tina but the casting for her was never right long with the rest of cast.

You know, the Borderlands movie did one good thing: It got Xbox to put the entire game collection on sale. I just nabbed the whole frigging franchise for $30. Spinoffs, DLC, the whole shebang. So thanks, terrible movie. You reminded me how great these games were, and made me wanna play them again for the first time in years.

I don't think this is an entirely correct take: Video game movies haven't exactly been very high-risk, and they've been more popular than ever and depending on the brand, can be extremely profitable. Borderlands doing bad speaks more about the movie and the people behind it than it does the genre of video game movies. Borderlands itself as a series hasn't exactly been on the up-and-up and is no cashcow compared to the likes of FNAF and Sonic the Hedgehog. The biggest complaint I've heard about Borderlands is its dry writing and its poor casting choices.

Completed Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk 2077, really really good DLC, had a great time playing it. Performances are fantastic, Dogtown was a lot of fun and had some nice side missions and gigs. Probably one of the better DLCs ive ever played.

Ending up siding with So Mi in the end, it was my gut feeling to go with her over Reed. Ended up getting her to the space port, knew she was lying about the cure but decided to help her in the final part of the last mission and ended up killing Reed at the launch pad. I felt my V would still want to give her a shot at survival despite the betrayal.

Now back to the main game.

Is Phantom Liberty side-content that takes you out of Night City totally and is kinda unrelated to the main game, or is it post-game sequel-lite content?

Well you are still in Night City, just in a locked off area called Dogtown which is next to Pacifica and behind massive fortified walls. Eventually as you progress through the plot you do get access to Night City again and can travel back and forth freely, and some of the main plot does take part in Night CIty proper depending on choices you make. Some of the gigs can also start in Dogtown and take you into pacifica or the corpor area etc for a bit.

Plot wise it does tie into the main plot in regards to the Relic chip that V has, like their motivations for getting involved in the plot of Phantom Liberty is to do with a possible way out of the whole chip mess but none of the main story characters make an appearance besides Johnny Silverhand who still pops up quite a lot as you go through it. So its largely driven by its own few key characters.

It can also give you an entirely new ending that i believe actually skips the majority of the main games story depending on certain choices you make. So its not really sequel content imo, more of a companion piece.

Civilization VII released their game play showcase today, revealing new features that mark a dramatic departure from previous installments.

This has really raised my interest. The new mechanics seem interesting and I think the art style is a vast improvement over VI.

I await February 11th with baited breath.

I see a lot of people talking about the demo recently released of the Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team. The environments look great from what I've seen so far, but I do have a problem with the face models. I don't mind Maria's too much, but for me, James has too much of an expressive face somehow. I was thinking back about this video I saw before talking about the character of James and the narrator said he has dissociative amnesia, that he avoids eye contact and withdraws into himself - he is very much detached from reality.

I think, in ways, we are spoiled, in the current era of graphical advancement, developers can put so much detail and emotion onto a face, the remake version you can really see the worry, the tension, and the dread on James' face. The original SH2 was on the PS2/Xbox so they couldn't do what they can today in terms of detail and realism, but it was very good. Gotta have to see more of the game.

Image

Anyway, is anyone looking forward to the game?

Kinda? More like Tactical squad combat though. You can give orders to your Star mates via a radial menu or on the map, as I recall. Sounds like it's more akin to Ghost Recon than a true RTT experience.

STALKER Anomaly time as always. <3 Recently got into it, now addicted to it.

To be clear, not the vanilla Anomaly; that is an item bloat and too much of a sim that I am not a fan of. There is this thing called OWA (Old World Addon) that made it closer to the original STALKER trilogy.

I never got around to trying any of the big mods for stalker, at least not from what i can remember but Anomaly rings a bell.

Really looking forward to Stalker 2 coming out later this year, hoping its good.

Anomaly along with GAMMA (or Gamma or G.A.M.M.A., ugh the dotting is tedious :P) are the big two. There's also Call of Chernobyl, which was a relatively older mod and I assume Anomaly/Gamma was a spiritual successor or something. I'm unfortunately not too familiar with the history of it so yeah!

Like yeah, don't get me wrong, if one likes it, sure no problem! Buuuut I am not exactly a mil-sim guy, so this kind of thing (for example, there is BOTH old and new ammo like what the heck, man?) is a turn-off for me. The OWA that I mentioned brings back what the trilogy is known for with less item bloat so that you can have fun exploring the Zone while also still giving a decent (but not brutal) challenge.

Also yeh, looking forward to STALKER 2! Careful hype, of course, but I do hope that these guys and girls will pull this off. ♥

I am sadly just not a fan of crafting, so for stuff like Minecraft, I typically just hang around in other people's places and creations with no griefing, I am not like that. :D It's not just because of Minecraft, never was! I just suck big time at crafting mechanics.
