Overwatch 2's PvE mode Cancellation

Postby Orcuo » Tue May 16, 2023 5:10 pm

On May 16th (Today as of writing this), Blizzard announced on a Twitch Stream that the long-awaited Overwatch 2’a PvE mode was finally… cancelled. Essentially saying that (I believe to be 4+ Years) of work has been scrapped. Here’s a word from one of the people on the Twitch Live Stream:

"And so we are left with another difficult choice. Do we continue to pour all that effort into PvE, hoping we can land it at some point in the future or do we stick with this set of values that we have aligned on and focus on the live game and focus on serving all of you? With everything we have learned about what it takes to operate this game at the level that you deserve, it's clear that we can't deliver on that original vision for PvE that was shown in 2019. What that means is that we won't be delivering that dedicated hero mode with talent trees, that long-term talent power progression. Those things are just not in our plans anymore. And we know that this is going to be disappointing to many of you which is why we wanted to bring it up before we talk about the road map. And to be perfectly honest it's been really difficult for many of us and a lot of folks on the team that pour their heart and soul into that stuff."

Anyway, on top of some other stuff, that’s it. PvE mode has been cancelled, and lot’s of Overwatch fans are mad. The next 4-6 months in the Overwatch community will be quite interesting to view.
Heyo, I’m Funnyman. I like death and video games.
Deciding which one I prefer over the other is the fun part.

Not being a long-time Overwatch fan, I'm mostly upset because it means my main man Sigma won't get any more story focus. Literally the most interesting character in Overwatch whos story will never be expanded on, at all, forever. Thanks Blizzard.

Do want amazing PVE with a wholesome multiplayer community?

Play Deep Rock Galactic!

The best PVE game every.
You play as dwarves in space mining the planet Hoxxes IV, which may or may not be inhabited by hostile aliens…
Imagine L4D, but with procedurally generated caves and fully destructible terrain with perfectly balanced classes, fun weapons, and the nicest community to ever exist in gaming. The content is somewhat limited, but is made up for by the amazing multiplayer experience. I have made multiple long time friends from playing deep rock galactic alone. Best of all, it’s an indie game so you don’t feel bad about finding a soulless corporation! The developers are incredibly tight knit with the community and even add Easter eggs into the game referencing jokes in the community (ex: people spam ping mushrooms in the mushroom biome because the voice line is funny, and the devs added a response from Mission Control if you spam the voice line enough times)
“Someday, people will say quotes I never said” - Sun Tzu, or something.

Post Irony and Meta Irony must be embraced as the next step
