Pretty self-explanatory. I'm excited to hear all the hot takes!

My pick is Field of Dreams. It's pretty much the story of a family on drugs and I have no clue why that was nominated for Best Picture.

Toy Story. A good movie that is overrated due to how spectacular their (better) sequels are in comparison to it.

Calling things overrated is overrated.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Can't really say what the most overrated movie truly is since have not really watched that many movies, but imo Knives Out is pretty overrated, was pretty predictable to be honest and I did not really like the Southern Accent of Benoit Blanc, it did not suit the theme in my opinion.

Citizen Kane. It takes about an hour of story and stretches it out to nearly 2 hours.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is just A New Hope with slightly different names/characters. Minus all the fun/adventure of A New Hope. It just feels too...bland. It doesn't captivate me like A New Hope.

So you almost understood the movie.

I've said it many times in the past and I will continue to say it but The Hunger Games (namely the first one) what with its pacing issues, uninteresting characters, terrible cinematography and, most annoyingly of all, the fact that you have to have read the books beforehand just to figure out the plotholes (seriously, if your adaptation has to use the source as a crutch then it has failed as an adaptation). I really have no idea how it became an internet darling.

EDIT: Completely forgot about the ending which just screams "deus ex machina".

This is subjective of course but some movies that I found underwhelming were Napoleon Dynamite, Office Space, Whiplash, and The Shape of Water. If I had to choose one it would be Whiplash because it has the highest IMDB rating and I really did not like it.

Inception was an average movie which was extremely predictable without any thought-provoking message or questions. I could watch it again and find it reasonably enjoyable, but it isn't intelligent or masterful; the movie was forgettable but entertaining at best. I can think of others which I hate more, but this one is very highly rated on IMDb and had people raving about it when it first came out.

Let's not forget that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has a 91% Tomatometer with a 42% audience score. Someone's wrong here, and I don't think it's the audience.

Ahem Ahem...Interstellar.

(Spoiler Alert)

The ending was literal shit to me (the blackhole thing) --- it's just way toooo overboard. But of course, the rest of the movie is really good.

I know Nolan is known for bringing philosophical movies and mind bending kool-aids and things like that, but come on, the interstellar ending is waaaaayyyy toooo abstract to the point I find it absolutely high.

Isn't that kind of the point of the movie?

It's not going to make you like the film any more than you do but a lot of the issue with people now watching Citizen Kane is how much it influenced the language of film since so that we've grown up on imitations of imitations of what Citizen Kane did first, so it feels trite.

But that's just time. Unless you have a vested interest in the history and development of film as an art or language and how it's significant it's just Orson Welles Orson Welling all over the place.

Scarface. I watched it for the first time a year ago while going through all the most famous gangster and mafia films. Tony Montana is such a disgusting and unlikeable character, the story bored me, and the film's climax made me cringe. For comparison I watched all of the Godfather films, and parts I & II were brilliant and I thought really earned their status in pop culture. But yeah, I'll never watch Scarface again.
