Wheel of Time discussion thread

Postby The Blaatschapen » Sun Nov 21, 2021 3:22 pm

Another thread gets woven.

Flowing like the Amazon prime river it brings us to new episodes of this epic saga.

I couldn't easily find an old thread regarding this book series that now just got an adaption to a streaming(I don't think we should call these things a TV series anymore) series.

I've seen the first three episodes and I have questions.

Mostly, I am pissed off about the introduction of a new character, to do what exactly? We've barely got to know the characters, so the bond that is supposed to be established is simply not visible for us viewers.

I'll keep it vague, because spoilers. But if you must know

Perrin has a wife, that is killed immediately in episode 1.

Anyway, soon the wheel turns again, bringing us the fourth episode :)

I like the novels very much. They have intrigued me since I first discovered them sometime in the 2010s.

It's not perfect, but I'm generally happy with what we seem to be getting with regard to the TV series. Most of the changes are, by and large, good for the screen and for faster plot development.
While she had no regrets about throwing the lever to douse her husband's mistress in molten gold, Blanche did feel a pang of conscience for the innocent bystanders whose proximity had caused them to suffer gilt by association.

King of Snark, Real Piece of Work, Metabolizer of Oxygen, Old Man from The East Pacific, by the Malevolence of Her Infinite Terribleness Catherine Gratwick the Sole and True Claimant to the Bears Armed Vacancy, Protector of the Realm

I have watched the first two till now, and think that the costumes are great, but the dialogue till now is quite weak. The acting is brilliant, though the color of the show, and some of the changes are terrible. 7.5/10 for now. Enjoyed it, better than I expected but not as good as I hoped.

I've found it...watchable so far.

But I'm very curious about where the money is going. I looked it up, the shows budget is about the same or higher than Game of Thrones per episode...but it looks much cheaper than GoT.

It's clearly not going to sets, or costumes, or fight choreography, is 90% of the budget really just CGI and Rosamund Pike's paycheck?

Well, the changes are more bearable or understandable than what Apple did to Foundation (That is a mess), so we'll have to see where it goes.
