Fake Phone Numbers

Postby Australian rePublic » Fri Aug 20, 2021 2:48 am

So many of you here like to write fiction. As such, if you want to include a phone number in works of fiction, it's best to avoid real numbers, as people actually call those numbers and end up ringing whoever happens to own that number. As such, many governments around the world have created phone numbers for use in works of fiction. I thought I would create this as a guide. In the USA, they use numbers with 555 in them (though I think it's been narrowed even further than that to not include all 555 numbers),

Here is a list of fake phone numbers to ring in Australia:

Sorry, I can't provide info for other countries, so feel free to post them here as a resources to NSers who are writting fiction

In the Irish Republic, Drama use phone numbers follow the format 020 91# ####.

Important: while other 020 numbers are currently unused, ComReg may make them real numbers in the future.
