what's the best national anthem?

a national anthem is a song used to represent a country at events
all 196 countries have them
and some subdivisions have them too
they sound very catchy
and they can have a lot of meanings

here are some of my favorites

I have a few that I really like for various reasons. For the tune, it's a toss-up between the Spanish and Italian anthems. For the emotion it evokes, Israel is my favourite. Since anthems are often something you have to sit through at international sporting and similar events whether you like it or not, I like the Japanese one for its brevity. Overall, the Russian anthem has all the elements I think an anthem should have both in its tune and lyrics.

A few of my favourite would be; Mongolian National Anthem, Indonesia Raya, Israeli National Anthem, of course the superior Soviet Union National Anthem, North Korean National Anthem and lastly, Fairland Sarawak, which was technically a nation of its own before the formation of Malaysia.

According to the genius anthem expert, me, anthems must satisfy certain criterias if it wants to be known as "great":

It has to represent the country. When someone hear the anthem, they must immediately be able to think "ah yeah, this is a music from *that* country, or *that* culture, or at least *that* geographical area.
Its design has a purpose. What do you want to emphasize? Hope even after 2000 years of waiting? Triumphant military glory? Embrace of a unique society or tradition?
People can sing it. Absence of musical instruments shouldn't hinder, in any way, a great anthem's ability to spontaneously break out among the masses during somekind of ocassion (and there MUST be an occasion where spontaneously singing that anthem will be relevant), or chanted by a captured soldier awaiting execution, or whatever. All because they think it'll be cool to sing it at those instances.
It has to stand out. You want people to enjoy listening to it, to be put in awe when they hear it, for them to put the anthem on their YouTube playlist so they can easily access it.

With that in mind, my favorite is the Welsh, Russian, Kazakh, and Israeli anthem, not in order.
