The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.
--S. Huntington

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.

I have been listening nonstop to Paramore for the last week. I had been familiar with a couple of their songs before I decided to dive into their discography, which was an amazing decision in my book. My first logical step was to look at their most recent album, After Laughter, and man was I hooked by the end of my first listen. My favorite songs from that album were Rose-Colored Boy, a song that blends an optimistic beat with an equally pessimistic message, and Hard Times, a song that gets stuck in my head way too easily and describes the 2021 state of mind perfectly even though it was released in 2018. After that, I went on a YouTube binge and wound up listening to a few songs from their self-titled album from 2013. The whole album in my opinion is both an homage to the band's pop-punk roots and a bridge to the new poppier but still emo Paramore. The song that I believe encapsulates this transition from being an angsty teenage band to an adult-oriented group is Ain't it Fun, a song all about the real world and the reality that you no longer have the safety blanket of home. And yet this same album presents a genuine pop love song with Still Into to You. The musical diversity of Paramore is really shown off in After Laughter and Self-Titled, not discounting All We Know Is Falling, Riot!, or Brand New Eyes. In my opinion, perhaps because I haven't listened to enough songs from this era of Paramore, AWKIS and Riot! seem to blend together, with the three songs I listened to from Brand New Eyes( The Only Exception, Playing God, and Brick by Boring Brick) having a different but similar sound to the first two albums. Speaking of the first two albums, man are they good. Misery Business, For A Pessimist I'm Pretty Optimistic, Emergency, crushcrushcrush, Born For This, and Fences have all made their way into my Spotify playlist.

And as a was relistening to the This is Paramore playlist for the nth time, I realized the common thread of my addiction to Paramore was Haley Williams' vocals. The one constant is her, and that isn't even constant. On some songs like Still Into You, her voice takes a poppier sound and in others like Misery Business, it's far more punk and much more in line with eyeliner and low cut jeans of the mid-2000s. But the most impressive thing about Paramore is that they were able to change their sound but not their identity. They're still the same band that released All We Know Is Falling just matured.

Sorry if this is long I just needed to get my thoughts out :)
"Why do you care what people think?
Are you hooked up to their leash?
You know anklebiters
Ate up your personality"- Paramore

Doc Watson - Matty Groves Interesting variation in so far as this is the only one I've found where the liaison is initiated by Matty rather than the lady.
CYNIC, n. A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be. Hence the custom among the Scythians of plucking out a cynic's eyes to improve his vision.

Thug Life - Pour Out A Little Liquor
I am thou, thou art I. Thou hast acquired a new vow. It shall become the wings of rebellion that breakth thy chains of captivity.
"And now, standing on this mountain of brave corpses, I have quite the view." - Erwin Smith
“You know the difference between me and you? I bleed red and you bleed green.” - Avon Barksdale
Where was your star?
Was it far, was it far?
When did we leave?
We believed, we believed, we believed

In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
Just to see him fly
Too many died
We build a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But we don't know why
Ooh, now where do we go

Acid Bath - Paegan Love Song

It was kissing my eyelids and burning my face away
Dying felt so goddamn good today
We dance the electric Pagan Love Song
We hunt with the children paling in the catacombs
Eating dead flowers bleeding in a strange daze
I was cutting throats and eating tears
Smiling in a ruined age
