Oh, shit. Those are two opinions that are totally against-the-grain and that I disagree with completely. This is the first time I've ever heard someone say that they didn't like Spirited Away. I personally loved it - it's my second-favorite Ghibli film after My Neighbor Totoro. It's a beautiful allegory for death and the afterlife that I think should be explored a lot more.

I went and searched it up and... wow, those models. I... they kinda look like someone with a severe hand tremor tried animating a small child's drawings.

Totoro is not an allegorical film about death, Spirited Away is not allegorical about prostitution, even after Studio Ghibli comes out and categorically denies these pseudointellectual theories about their films, they still persist and it's honestly quite annoying, ignoring the actual themes of their films.
Are foreign filmmakers not allowed to make simple pleasing stories, do they all have to be arty with some hidden dark meanings?!
It's almost as bad as the "Lion King Ripped off Kimba" common knowledge.
