Okay, I'll start by saying I'm pretty new to RPGs and have only been here on NS for a few months. I've always poked around in the various RPG topics created by other players and I noticed that, broadly speaking, they can be divided into two types: the "chats" and real narrative stories.
I've just been in a couple of RPGs and I found it more natural to describe everything my character does, including adding a description of the setting. As if I were trying to write a book.
This is the point.
I attributed my desire to be more narrative from the fact that I enjoy reading books and therefore I wanted to emulate a writing situation (or at least I tried to do).
But since, as I said before, I'm quite new to the world of RPGs, I wanted the opinion of veteran players (even outside of NS): the fact that some people tend to be more narrative and descriptive can be implied that they love to read? Or is it just coincidence?

(I'm definitely not a veteran, and not a role player either)

Reading books from different authors, themes, or genres would expose you (a general you, since this could apply to nearly everyone) to other forms or styles of writing, or better yet, writing that's far better than your own, so I believe it would also help you be a good role player.

That’s an interesting question that I think it’d be difficult to unpack without help from those players, or people who have previously discussed this with them. I can only speak to my own personal roleplaying experience here, which is more narrative because A) I do like to read, 2) Olwe’s overarching storyline ties into older roleplays from other sites, and III) I’m using this as a way to sharpen my writing skills. I do know that my closest friend on here, Dyste, is an experienced longtime Dungeons & Dragons player and probably brought that narrative-focused style of roleplaying here with them... I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they’re an avid reader, too.

I'm not exactly a book worm per se but I like reading articles about topics I'm passionate about, in a way that must have helped to provide me with a bEttEr CoMmAnd Of The eNGLiSh LanGuAAge and i guess that shows on some of my factbooks lol

point is, being a good reader probably helps because its the tried and tested way, but it's not the only way.

I used to be heavily into roleplaying in my early teen years. I have had mixed experiences with roleplaying. I'm a pretty bad reader, I'm terrible at wording things, I make typos all the time but I still had fun roleplaying. I'm neutral when it comes to the enjoyment of reading, I enjoy roleplay because I get to change the story by taking control of my character within the story. I am sure that being a better reader can help in roleplaying because I have seen some people with absurd amounts of words I have never heard before in their writing. Kind of why I like to stick to my own independant storytelling where I can understand what is going on.

I'd be surprised if it didn't help. Reading more helps generate more ideas, more scenarios, and more ways of telling a story. Mind you, I've not been involved in as much RP as I would like to, and do read quite a bit, so call me biased.
