There are some pretty interesting theories on why Bo Katan didn't accept the darksaber. I think in one theory it is said that under her rule Mandalore fell making her an ineffective leader and thus she needs to prove herself in combat in order to be worthy to rule Mandalore again. Instead of it being given to her.

My theory: We need a conflict for season 3 now that Grogu is gone, so they came up with this.

Season 3 is definitely going to be the effort to restore Mandalore.

I would imagine that would depend on just how loyal different sects are to the idea of the possessor of the Darksaber being Mandalore. Probably a few out there who see the tradition as outdated. But there are also probably some really fanatical believers in it as well so I think DIn can muster up some support.

I think season 3 is going to be fully focused on Mandalorian traditions with them as a society beginning to move away from their more outdated ideas which Din, who we have seen begun to really loosen up on things like his helmet wearing, is in a pretty good place to spearhead.

Now this is just a rumor so lets not get too hype, but I am cautiously optimistic if this is true. While I would prefer the original team made this rumored new game, Bioware has kinda lost its shine these days. And it would be nice to have Old Republic stuff brought back into canon.
