Curiosity question.

For those who liked Obi-Wan; what was your introduction to Star Wars?

I was raised in accordance with the Holy Trilogy. I'm probably one of the few people my age that's actually seen the original theatrical cuts (Han shot all the way first.)

I didn't hate Obi Wan, I watched Star Wars in its original theatrical release.

Haven't seen Kenobi but my introduction was the Original Trilogy. Unfortunately it was the one Lucas had edited so I never got to see Han shoot first (I still say he shot first though).

I watched the OT as a kid, but wasn’t really into SW. I watched one of the Prequels (TPM?) and then really got into it, which is why the Prequels are my favorite era.

Yes, clearly Leia was very familiar and friendly with Obi-Wan and they had all sorts of zany adventures together when she was a kid. I guess she just kind of forgot about that for 20 years or so until she decided to name her son after him
:p

The unavoidable problem with prequels is that you either have to heavily restrict yourself, or just shrug and say, "Fuck it, every one of these characters develops crippling Alzheimers in X years."

Leia never actually interacted with Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. She sent the droids to Obi Wan with a delibrately vague message given the high probability of them being intercepted, her brother got it because Ben was there watching him anyway
Why he moved out and then moved back again I guess we'll never know
. Obi Wan and Luke catch a ride with Han and Chewie to rescue Leia. Luke, Chewie, Han and the bots go to get Leia out of the hoosegow Obi Wan goes and turns off the tractor beam. On their way to the Falcon Obi Wan confronts Vader for the last time and the rest of them fuck off into space.

She said one sentence to him in a recording that she made while her ship was being bombarded by an Imperial cruiser. There isn't a lot of time for "Hey, remember when I was ten and someone kidnapped me to get to you? Well..."

I mean..yes? A personal appeal to a man she knew well and who saved her life previously would have made more sense than "General Obi-Wan Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars..." (which for extra irony he didn't actually do, because even the guy who created Star Wars couldn't avoid the prequel trap)

Sorry, where is the lie? Kenobi was a General in the Grand Army of the Republic (as were all Jedi), and as such he was subordinate to both the Jedi Council and the Galactic Senate - the latter of which included Bail Organa who, at that point in time, Leia knew as her one and only father.

So technically the statement is correct.

Only in the most tenuous sense that no human being would actually use in that context. It's like approaching some random veteran of the second Iraq War and going, "You served Senator Bernie Sanders during the War, and he needs your help again!".

To whatever extent Lucas had planned things out in the OT, it's pretty clear that Obi-Wan was supposed to have had some far more direct and personal connection to Leia's father than "He was one of the 2,000 senators in the civilian government that the Jedi Order technically answered to during the war."

Doubly silly because, again, the new show establishes that Leia and Obi-Wan knew eachother personally and had wacky adventures together.

Well, if you watched RotS, you’ll see that Kenobi and Organa were very close

Also, Leia only knows Obi-Wan as Ben (which is why she reacts so much when she hears his name in the OT). A little bit of a stretch, sure, but helps to fill in that plothole

Folks took me to see Phantom Menace when I was like six. I vaguely remember it but I know my aunt was the one who properly introduced me to the universe as she got me to watch the entire original trilogy on VHS one weekend. I remember asking her who that old guy force ghost with Yoda and Obi-Wan was at the end of Return of the Jedi and her telling me it was Anakin.

I don't think the message needs any explaining at all. Remember that she's not just taking the plans back Md asking Ben for help, she's also trying to recruit Obi-Wan into the fight on behalf of Bail. It makes sense that she would call him General instead of Ben. "Ben you helped me that one time", isn't quite the call for enlistment as "General, the fight continues, we need you to take up arms again"

Andor could be promising. It has the advantage of having characters that aren’t really established so it’s open ground.

Disney fucking it up is a possibility. I talked to the husband of the gal who created The Owl House. They are relentless of how they think things should be done.

Pixar has a modicum of creativity simply because guys like Doc are still around. Once they are gone; it will diminish really fast.

The last couple episodes are more of what matters honestly. Someone will make an edit at some point where it's just what's important. Cut out the fluff and give us what we came for... being

They made Black Widow a comedy, in the comics she's a trained Assassin who seduced and killed men before Joining Shield. Disney doesn't know dark if it hit them in the face unfortunately. That's partially why I support directors making there work and studios backing off. Justice League and Mandalorian are perfect examples. Disney backed off and the first 2 seasons were amazing. When Warner interfered we got 2017 Justice League.

The odds of the story being about Andor taking care of a small child are not zero. Either that, or a small child being part of the main cast. Disney is like an A.I. when it comes to repetition of ideas.

Andor is the small child, but through experimentation he's been turned into an adult and has to learn how to be an adult from a wise old Jedi master living in a swamp while being hunted by Darth Vader who believes Andor is his son.

Idk if we can talk about other Star Wars content here but I just finished playing Jedi: Fallen Order and I really liked it. Thinking of getting the Free Kashyyyk symbol (the one with the shyyyo bird) tattooed on me. Can't wait for Jedi: Survivor to come out next year.

Course its fine to talk about it here, its a Star Wars game afterall :p

I originally had no interest in Fallen Order, none of the trailers really did anything for me but i decided on a whim to buy it when it came out and had a ton of fun with it. Glad i bought it, it was a pretty solid game.
