Minecraft, or Fortnite?

Postby The Yeetusa » Mon Apr 06, 2020 11:43 am

So, this is one of the ongoing debates. The old first person shooter, or the even older sandbox game?
Personally, I prefer minecraft

Minecraft of course. But I’m not sure fortnite counts as “the old first person shooter.” Halo, Call of Duty, Doom, and lots of other FPS games are much older (and better) than fortnite.

NationStates also. And to add, the Elder Scrolls series is excellent as well.

But between Minecraft and Fortnite - obviously Minecraft. Never played Fortnite, don't think it compares well to Minecraft anyway, and I consider it commercial to a fault.

Minecraft is a game that can be really open-ended, but still engaging enough with its mechanics. People have built pretty much everything imaginable within the game, and invented all sorts of different challenges within it as well. Overall the open-endedness probably helped it gain its spot as most purchased game of all time.

I don't believe these two games are comparable. They are what they are because they offer a reasonable price model, community engagement, and frequent changes that make the game feel fresh and exciting, among other things.

They are games that cover two completely different genres, and don't really deserve to be put in the same category. I think this debate is only popular because the games both appeal to a similar playerbase.

Fortnite is also popular for its open-endedness as well... It is so popular as a result of building, which is unique as a combat mechanic in comparison to other games and enables a different battle every time. I think you are also disregarding the Fortnite Creative mode, where users have created thousands of challenges and builds. I do agree that the games really don't compare to each other well though.

Years, actually. I own StW but don't enjoy it very much, nor do I feel that it is very unique, so I neglected to mention it.

Fair enough. I thought you were referring to the actual game development, since StW was first announced in 2011(?) and the battle royale was developed in 2017.
