Whats a good mechanized template for HOI4? Its something i never really used that much in the game and i want to try my hands at some new division set ups.

There were Nazis in Latvia. Mainly because i didnt realise i was being naval invaded till they had almost the whole coast under their control, but then i redeployed my reserve heavy tank corps and one of my infantry armies and pushed the bastards back into the sea

Going for the "Not a Step Back" achievement as the USSR to not lose any core territory before 1945. So i set it to non historical focuses, but manually set Japan, China, Poland and the Baltics to historical (setting them to historical does not invalidate achievements since its not an alt-history route) and Germany had a civil war so is now the German Empire and Britain went down the kings party route.

So the plan is to literally sit here, do fucking nothing to piss off anyone and fortify the absolute fuck out of my borders, mainly in europe. Japan and China doing historical should leave me alone but ill leave garrisons over there in the future just to be safe. Also gona try and nab the "proper-gander" achievement to do 50 propaganda campaigns before 1945 since i dont have it yet.

so i'm still having a hard time understanding the modern division meta. is there an overall "best" or "least bad" division template that i can just swap all my infantry to?

21 width infantry with 9 Infantry Battalions and 1 Artillery Battalion, with support engineers and artillery is a fairly decent one ive been using a lot lately and it gets the job done.

This is the division guide ive been using, has a ton but the stats are geared around Superior Firepowers, of if you are using like mobile warfare or mass assault they might need some tinkering. It goes into detail about different types of terrain etc as well and specific templates for like fighting in jungles, islands etc too

I've spent some time playing with the new expansion and such.

If you want to optimize for combat efficiency, you'll have different templates for different purposes (mainly defending and attacking) and different theaters of war. Combat width varies depending on terrain; you'll want to optimize for the kinds of terrains you expect your divisions to be fighting in.

If you want to spend a minimal amount of army XP (which is a pretty valuable resource now), Huskar Social Union's template is a pretty good all rounder. If you don't have air supremacy, I would add support AA to that template. CAS does a shit load of damage in the current patch and AA reduces that by a lot. It also gives your divisions a bit of piercing which is useful for dealing with light tanks.
