Update on this. I just tried it. Playing as america I dumped all my cruisers on the east coast, converted all my battleships to carriers (fighters only) and built a bunch of torpedo destroyers. My strike force are 60 destroyers + 4 carriers (fighters only) and they are doing stellar work against the Japanese.

Indeed, the fact this is possible makes EU4 both the most and least functional game I've ever played.

For my first serious HRE game, this is going extremely well. Wurzburg is a solid start. I will admit I had to vassalize Hesse and Mainz to avoid getting coalitioned to death, but I'm decent at managing vassals. The reformation has hit me hard, in that I have cleansed Catholicism from my lands but I've got Reformed running about as well. The disaster isn't slowing me down much, though. Next stop is the League War train, and we'll see how that goes. I'm almost as strong as Austria, so it shouldn't be too hard. But then again I haven't done that before, so...we'll see.

The HRE minors can swarm you to death, so, uhh, if you’re only as strong as Austria, bring some big allies. :p

Or many allies. Nothing says you can’t make use of the League War HRE swarm yourself, and quantity sure has a quality of its own...

I've gotten back to playing EU4 after a long hiatus. The last update I played on was 1.29, since I didn't want to abandon my Sweden savegame following the release of 1.30. Spoiler alert - I abandoned it.

Anyways, I decided to play as Austria in order to get that sweet feeling of having 423423412 PUs, and... I died against Bohemia. I stopped playing after that, but I'm prolly going to go back to it today.

I will name my next heir after what the next person who replies to this reply specifically. EDIT: Will add proof when I decide to play

I fought my first successful containment war as Japan after my infamy went to 27. Thankfully only Britain, her Indian vassals, North Germany, and the Ottomans declared war on me and their navies were about on par or worse than mine, they never threatened the home islands and kept invading Atjeh and my Malaysian provinces. I invaded Australia and New Zealand and the Brits never tried to take them back, but what won the war was landing a big force in India and wiping out Britain's Indian allies who's armies barley scratched mine.

The beginning is definitely tricky, but once you defeat France it is pretty smooth.

That was the easiest part. France was literally no threat to me until 1760 (I defeated them five times from start) and I had to actively refrain from taking any more land -even now I still hold Gascony, Cales and Normandy.
