Paradox Development Studio originally arose out of a small niche company making board games, and I think the attitudes and customs they inherited from those days are seriously hampering them now that they are making complex historical simulation games that sell hundreds of thousands of copies apiece. Avoiding difficult topics like it's the plague is a phenomenon fairly widespread across the video-gaming industry, but I feel that Paradox suffers from it more than most simply because of the types of games they create.
It's good to see them take on what will inevitably be a very difficult few weeks for their community moderators. ;p
I really like how they handled the topic of slavery in EU4, a game about colonialism. They portrayed it exactly as how colonizers saw slaves, a trade good
