Everyone should try a Zunbil run at least once, just too experience how awful that start is.

I'd rather have fun.

Challenges can be fun.

Zunbil isn't a challenge, it's just unfair.

Paraguay in Victoria 2 is a challenge, Albania in HoI3 is a challenge. Zunbil just looks like pure tedium and frustration.

Jacksepticeye of all people made a CK3 video. This release is going to be a really big event.

What level of bad are we talking here? Like is it the level of "I have to spend hours micromanaging everything" or is it more "I am 5 levels deep in civil war, broke, and being invaded by two larger powers and this is nothing out of ordinary" level of bad?

The quality of this game aside, it's had quite the build up, especially this last few weeks huh? I really hope it's at least as good as what it looks like when others are playing. If it's fun, It's alright with me at this point.

Your first character is in his late fifties, your sons have randomly generated stats (which are all usually low), gavelkind succession, squashed between Tibet (which isn't usually a problem) and the Caliph and his vassals (which is usually a huge problem), you also have a rare religion with low moral authority that nobody else on the game practices and because of your realm size a revolt could easily cause a game over and it also restricts the marriage pool to Eastern religions only.

It's certainly survivable, especially if you take Kabul as the very first thing you do, since the silk road trade would give you enough to build a decent retinue to scare the Caliph's vassals into not attacking you. If you do get invaded, it's occasionally survivable if you take proper advantage of the mountains and the stupid AI.

Playing CKII Avatar (because I can't stand the base game). It keeps crashing on me sporadically, but I can play it for a few hours and have fun. I've united the northern Fire Nation, and I'm working on the south.

It's probably a paid promotion.

The religious makeup of India in CK2 is complete nonesense.

It's just dividing them into thirds. And I doubt Jainism would form a majority in any kingdom at any point in history.

Honestly, a lot of realism problems not just in CK2, but across the Paradox Grand Strategy games boil down to the games having a European outlook on how things like, say, feudalism, religion, or (in EU4) sovereignty works that is maybe less applicable outside of Europe at that point in history. There's only so much that can be done by messing with the history files if the basic game mechanics don't support how things actually worked on the ground in that region at that time.

It's perhaps an unavoidable problem, since you obviously can't simulate the entirety of human society and if you need a set of abstract mechanics to base a game around you might as well model them on what most of your audience will be familiar with - which for Paradox is the western, European way of doing things. But it can be somewhat irksome from time to time, as the litany of complaints about Imperial Byzantine election mechanics shows.

Jainism was a powerful religious force in southern India with a lot of Dravidian kings being ardent Jains.

But was that a minority ruling over a majority?

That doesn't make any sense. If the king is a Jain and historically the kings in an area where Jains then you'd want them to be Jains. Otherwise it'd just be gross oversight.

There are plenty of cultures historically where the monarchy, or ruling class, were a different religion or culture from the rest of the country.

So no, it's not nonsensical. Tbh I don't really understand what you're saying.

It'd be nonsensical to not include a major religion.

This is one of those sentences that stands beautifully in the absence of context.
