90% of the time Western Christianity gets walloped by the 10th century as it's caught between Nordic super-kingdoms launching Prepared Invasion every ten years and an OP Hispania usually ruled by the Umayyads that has subjugated all of Mauretania. By the time the Pope can call for a crusade, it's too late. Not enough potential participants to hold up against the Muslims and Pagans.

This is also common in 867.

The former I've seen to often -Hispania often incurs into Francia and often even Italia if you get the 769 start, especially if Charlemagne fails to make a bitch of the Saxons, but I've literally never seen that happen in the 867 start. Christians literally get Crusades at 900, and if the Khazars haven't taken over all of Byzantium and the Abbasids for some reason, there's on crusade after the other.
