Because i always thought that was a ruined city in the background, not pieces of machinery or whatever that is, that the Archaeologist is uncovering

I got Victoria 2 for super cheap but I have no idea how to play it. I managed to figure out HOI4 by jumping in blind with The New Order mod, but Vicky makes me feel like I'm taking an Econ exam. Bit of a shame too since Vic 2 seems like a great game and an example of Paradox at its best: it doesn't need 20 expansion packs to be playable, just 2.

Vicky has a really steep learning curve. There's a lot you need to learn - I've played it for a few years and I'm still bumbling around.

Your armies, at least in the early game, should be made of 4 infantry, 4 artillery, 1 hussar, and 1 engineer. I think you can combine them in around... 1870? 1880? Somewhere around there, I think.

Tax the rich at 50%, the middle class at 75%, and the poor at 100%. That way, more poor/middle class people become rich. I think.

Don't set your tariffs too high.

In peacetime, defund the military, navy, and military spending.

I think this might be a conflict with a mod, but for some reason all of my equipment as the USSR in my current campaign seems to be evolving... backwards.

As in all of my equipment is upgrading itself to older models. All my PPSH-41's are turning into SVT-38s, my BT-7s turn into T-26s etc and it doesnt matter if i limit the equipment my units use to the more modern equipment i make. And im not making any of these older guns any more either.

And i keep having growing stockpiles of random nation equipment, like basic equipment from the Baltic States which dont exist any more and equipment from... Communist India which was annexed in a civil war? WAT

Basically means my army wont upgrade its equipment and its kind of annoying, and it means my stockpile of equipment is just going insane with spare weapons. Its 1941 and i have over 100k Infantry Equipment for example (Nearly 80k of them SVT-28s and Basic Infantry Equipment from like five different counties that dont exist) a lot of which are literally coming out of no where.

Its the classic Soviet habit of squirreling away literally ever weapon you find.

So I'm giving I:R yet another go and man I really think Paradox nailed it with the rework. I'm playing Rome this time and I'm genuinely having a lot of fun, which is not something I could say I did for 1.0. I've taken most of Italy proper by the late 400's AUC and I've given Carthage the smackdown twice now and seized both Sicily and Sardinia from them.

CK3's current Crusader AI could definitely use a lot of work. The previous version (Before the current update, I think?) worked a lot better.

It's not the biggest empire but I'm happy with how this game has been going so far. The early game was hectic as I was expanding at a breakneck pace in Italy while trying to manage all the internal politicking but fairly early on I actually managed to topple the Republic. The Consul Quintus Postumius Philippus implemented a lifetime and hereditary dictatorship and after a civil war that gripped Italy for 4 years he emerged victorious and when he died his son Volesus Postumius Hellenicus became dictator and continued expanding Rome's borders. Near the end of his life Rome became a great power which let me finally begin recruiting an unlimited numbers of legions and it's been a trip since then. My rate of expansion has skyrocketed, in the past 10 years I've taken almost all of Illyria and once I'm done there I'm going to move onto Rhaetia, Gaul and Iberia before shifting back towards the other major powers. I managed to transition to the Roman Empire on my third dictator who currently rules as the first emperor, Quintus Postumius Pertinax, and overall it's been a lot of fun so far.
