The whole thing just feels like a mechanic designed to keep the AI down and prevent it from challenging the player, sort of like the obedience focus tree for Manchuko in HOI4. Not something the player should actually use short of severe masochism.

Except gavelkind (or something similar to it) was probably the most common succession type of that time period.
I don't like it either, but I understand why it's prevalent.
Daily News: IVC Lothal enters battle with new Xadian Flagship the Dreadnought Ronthawa in Galataea. Lothal had destroyed the 3 previous Xadian flagships in battle. | Mugeya fails to crack Wrothgar Prime, forced to retreat to unknown location in Sildorian Space by the Wrothgar Fleet. IVC Pride II to be rerouted to aid in finding and potentially capturing the hostile World Cracker. | New strain of the Frontline Pox breaks out in Nodex Prime, particularly affects the Xuni thralls. Planetary government passes edict to cull Xuni population to fight the disease before it can affect Silda population.

I don't get why everyone hates Gavelkind tbh. At worst, it'll mean your dynasty score will raise more quickly and you'll need to spend the first few years of your reign assassinating people, at best it's a centuries-long challenge (and it really only takes until you get late feudal law, so not really that hard anyway). Maybe Partition'll be different than Gavelkind tho so idk.
