5 Songs i Need To Listen To

Postby Unitopolis » Sun Apr 25, 2010 4:03 pm

Title says it all really, i want you to tell me your five favourite songs that you don't think i've heard (so no "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "99 Problems", "One" etc.) Thanks.

Oh and if i was you, here's what i'd put down, if anyone wants to give me their feedback. Also try and vary the genres a little, i know i haven't varied mine too widely but you'll just have to put up with it

eMC - Leak it Out
R.E.U.B. - Waiting For The World To Change
immortal technique - Bin Laden
Messiah J & The Expert - Jean is Planning An Escape
The Streets - Don't Mug Yourself

I just want you to please note that any knowledge I show throughout NS is based off of a 3rd grade education. All this means is that I probably know absolutely nothing about any subject I post about.
Thank God for Wikipedia!

Anything you can find by Cake.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.- Carl Sagan

1. "Untitled Dauðalagið Part II" - Sigur Rós An Icelandic post-rock whos lead vocalist,Jónsi Birgisson, sings in Hopelandish, a fake language, but his falsetto and the complimenting instrumental is just phenomenal. I found out about this song after getting into the game Dead Space, it was the trailer theme for the first trailer I saw for the game, which was a scary ass great game, by the way.

You'd think Rhodmhire of all people would just give you a bunch of Queen songs, but this band, and this song in particular, is an infrequent gaud, a gem of sorts, and it really goes to show how there is good to be found in the contemporary setting if you look deep enough. Of course, you often have to go pretty deep. Very, very deep. Incredulously deep, unfathomably deep.

I'm getting beyond myself.

2. "Sonic Adventure II (SA2) Live and Learn Remix" - ChEsDeRmAn Newgrounds is amazing shit, and probably the only hub I'd call a congealed genuine music source of this age. I usually listen to this before fighting with my katana during my workout, which usually only lasts about ten minutes.

Pretty epic if you ask me, I'm not one for Newgrounds music with vocals either (lucky it's not too often that that even happens) so the pure instrumental works out for me.

3. "Air" - Paul Collier This guy specializes in this kind of placid, relaxation music. I often listen to this when I'm reading, studying, or trying to go to sleep. Very soothing and elegant, again no vocals. Collier is in on the brain wave frequency stuff, I'm not too heavy on it, but whatever it is it works out music-wise (perhaps not in a neurological sense), and I loathe the day he stops putting out music.

4. "The Thinking Man" - Shane Walsh I found out about this pianist about three months ago, I love a lot of his work but this is by far my most cherished work he has put out. Like Collier, Walsh knows how to make my brain nice and calm and shiny for when I'm doing things that require it to be, and I always love me a good piano predominant instrumental piece to accomplish this daunting task.

Just be ready to think (and maybe cry a tear or two) when you listen to it.

5. "The Luckiest" - Ben Folds Five I only like this and one other song by Ben Folds Five, that other song being "Still." This is a rare breed, so seldom do I get a chance to hear a song about such a cliché as love and fall in love myself. So often the anecdotes are naive, idiosyncratic to the point of vomitting, it makes me abhor what we have become: a few text messages, a little Internet chatting and boom, love is established for an eon.

It is truly subjective, perhaps he is wrong, but I can absolutely laud his premise: It is one who cannot put into colloquial context how one feels for another, who must resort to telling of others' potent adoration of a partner in a romantic sense, who is truly in a state of undeniable love.

Yeah, Queen is the top, but I'm sure you've heard all of their songs.

You need these, in my humblest of opinions.

Eh, still gotta fit Nirvana in there, though i thank you for rejecting those Teen Spirit wankers.
OK

Jolene - The White Stripes (This is a cover of a Dolly Parton song, a little strange, accounting for the lyrical matter, but well done. The live version is exponentially better)

Stars - Hum Some great 90's shoegazey- grunge.

Your Little Hoodrat Friend - The Hold Steady Like classic rock... but not

Magnet's Coil - Sebadoh hard-driving folk rock, led by the quite possibly the laziest singer of all time

Gouge Away - The Pixies

Where Did You Sleep Last Night? - Nirvana (Still fit that in there)
Oh, to fly! To be free! To soar unhindered among the clouds! To set with the sun and to rise with the moon! To race every comet and to visit every star! To be free! To be Free! To be FREE! But alas, I am here, at the window sill, tethered by an unbreakable rope, intangible, yet ever present. Oh how I long to be free of these chains! To be free! To be Free! To be FREE!
