They look like the product of a night of unholy vilneness between a nercon and tyranids...

Do the Nids actually assimilate anything from the Necrons?

I would imagine the Tyranids have ways to break down metal and consume it when they invade and feed on worlds, to breakdown like architecture, natural metals, tanks etc, so they might be able to assimilate stuff from necron corpses and vehicles, but im honestly not sure.

Nids have normally avoided Necrons, though there is a hive fleet going right through the middle of a bunch of Necron kingdoms in the Ghoul Stars according to the latest fluff.

They also have a fleet dedicated to taking out demons too and it actively goes after them.

Wait, the Tyranids are making an effort to eat Chaos?

Where should I start book-wise if I really wanted to get into this franchise?

Guant's Ghosts or the Caiphas Cain books are solid AF, and make a good starting point.

Nah just to kill it

Hive Fleet Kronos actively goes after areas plagued by warpstorms and demonic invasions to drive the chaos forces and warp presence out of the area to allow the worlds to be fed upon.

It specialises in ranged fighting to counter the demons.

I'd strongly advise against starting with Ciaphas Cain. You have to already be familiar with the xtremegrimdark tone of the setting proper to catch the ironic humor of the Cain series. His character is more funny to read if you're already familiar with how the Guard and Commissars are usually portrayed.

And here I was hoping that the Necrons were the solution to the Nid problem.

Tyranids are not a problem, they are a solution to the glaring imperfections of all other lifeforms littering the universe.

Practical: you're going to be receiving coal on the holidays.
Theoretical: where might there be room for improvement in said drawing.

I thought for a second you meant like an actual ball before clicking the spoiler. Like imagine Ultramar as a volleyball getting spiked really hard between Orks and Chaos right before a certain 10 Foot Tall Muscular Space Roman Man comes in to tactically stomp each of their asses into the ground.

I could almost see the blood angels hosting balls but I suspect the dress code would involve hiding the young ladies' neck lines...

If there such a thing as an ultramarine party I imagine it's a bit more roman orgy...

Then the Muscular Roman Man decides to eye them s3xy elf ladies not take out the spess elves playing volleyball in the next court, and occasionally has contracts with them. Seeing how Chaos leads through all the shoreside Hot Topics, he leads a crusade to replace them with Roman malls and plaza to restore the town to being habitable. But suddenly, the 10 Foot Tall Edgy Plague Doctor attacks his gym with his stinky crew and a big ass fight starts.
