Surely they must have eaten trillions of spiders by now, you'd think at least one norn queen would take note and use the design, tactics and abilities that these creatures confer. And we have hard proof that they exist in 40k, so it's not like they just aren't eating them.

I assume an 8 legged creature would be inefficient in a chaotic battlefield. Just more limbs to be injured.

If Arachnophobia is the most common phobia today imagine how pronounced it is in the 42nd Millennium.

But you don't need 8 legs to be able to set up silk webs, use trapdoors, have night vision eyes, have paralysing fangs or be able to jump vast distances. All of those (and many more) are predatory features that could only benefit the tyranids. All of which they'd easily get through spiders.

Conserative Morality wrote:"It's not time yet" is a tactic used by reactionaries in every era. "It's not time for democracy, it's not time for capitalism, it's not time for emancipation." Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

The likely answer is 'we already have Megarachnids in the lore, and the 3-pairs-of-limbs silhouette is a key part of Tyranid design'.

My second Fangmoran Guard. I tried to make it brighter, to follow the advice I received here on the first one.

Darn, I was rather hoping you would say it could still do with more colour, so that I could indignantly show the final one

Danke! I used a fairly large wet palette, with stripes of Waaagh! Flesh, Yriel Yellow, Jokaero Orange, Khorne Red, Xereus Purple and Kantor Blue, and a belt of Stormhost Silver below them for the fish-scale effect. This let me mix them at lots of different ratios.

That big hook lance thing is not the real weapon, it is only a diversion. The REAL weapons are those star pattern toads. Do not lick the star pattern toads.

The fish that normally swims alongside the character - it gets attacks in their statline, so I decided to be efficient :)

So I've always wondered, what would the Empire under an Emperor Vlad von Carstein look like?

Probably one giant Sylvania.

Though much of Sylvania’s culture is a result of the harsh environment. Perhaps knowledge of that would help Vlad promote agricultural support for poverty-stricken areas. The undead could serve as an army to let the farmers remain at their fields, or as a workforce if greater manpower is needed.
Of course, other likely results would be the persecution of religion, an even greater class division, and war with the Dwarfs. I could see the Elves being a little more open to continued diplomacy, but the Dwarfs would never stand for it, not the slightest chance. They would be as likely to make peace with a Vampire as Thorgrim Grudgebearer would be to develop fondness for Goblins.
