Learning National Anthems

Currently Singapore and Burma's, heh!

I know Singapore's anthem by heart now, after 8 years (2 years of Primary sch, 4 years of Secondary sch, 2 years of Junior College) of singing it every single morning.

For Burma, there is a longer version, but we usually stick to the shorter version.

Anddd.... that's about it so far. I didn't really listen to other anthems just yet, or might have forgotten about them.

That's actually a pretty badass quote. The actual workings aside... that's the ingredients needed to create a perfect nation.

Why to which statement?

If you’re talking about both the modern and Soviet statement then that’s because they’re the same tune and both the lyrics actually sound pretty smooth

If you’re talking about the second statement well uhh. Our anthem isn’t exactly the greatest in tune compared to the Russian one.

I really like the French one, La Marseillaises, and I know the first verse of Auferstanden aus Ruinen, the anthem of the DDR (as well as the modern German one). I could probably muddle my way through the American one if I had to as well.

Well, counting only those I can sing at least a stanza thereof (pronunciation quality may vary): Italy, Germany (BRD, DDR and Empire), Switzerland (Italian lyrics and Rumantsch lyrics), France, Britain, Russia, Soviet Union (both pre-1944 and post-1944), US, Iceland, Scotland.

Interestingly, the first time I came in contact with Lithuania’s anthem was in an album otherwise filled with Polish patriotic songs — including their anthem.

I know the first few lines of the Soviet and Yugoslav anthems and several sections of the Canadian anthem. My favorite national anthem would have to be the 1960-2017 Mauritanian national anthem.

I know the USA anthem, and most of the Canadian anthem. The change to the Canadian anthem really threw me off. I got many a death glare by Canadians when I accidentally slipped and said, "in all thy sons command".
