Why are Scandinavians so good at Eurovisioning?

I can't believe how bland the UK staging was... even the two girls from Germany had a much more effective performance than the UK, not sure how the votes will go...

The music was forgettable as always since juries were reintroduced. Norway wasn't a complete sleeping pill, I suppose.

France was embarrassing.

Voted for Cyprus because absent any music worth voting for, the singer's costume is relevant to my interests.

Australia was good, liked Norway and Slovenia too.

France was embarassingly tryhard without an actual song to hang it off, Iceland's song was good but that performance in a public place...convert their points to years for prison sentences, ideally!

Well congratulations to The Netherlands. They have waited decades to host. They have asked the EBU to be considered if a winning nation declines hosting. The broadcaster is ready and I think Amsterdam 2020 (or wherever) will be one of the best Eurovisions. I'd also love to see if I can go next year!

Also less politics.

Shame the United Kingdom came 26th, but it was the final nail in the coffin for what has been an absolutely horrific Eurovision decade. 2010 last - 2019 last. The Netherlands is close to the UK, the BBC needs to change up.

Semi-Final 1 was depressing - a lot of the performances were sub-par (except Australia and Iceland), Semi-Final 2 was way better, even the boring entries of Semi-Final 2 (talking about you Ireland) were a bit interesting to watch. But this year I'm not particularly excited for the winner because no entry stands out as "Eurovision Winner", at most they feel like "Nice Songs", also I don't know, does anyone have like any comments on the hosting this year (I've got mixed reactions), AND that "mentalist" from Semi-Final 2 - staged or real?

Also lol we got our own contest haha!

Maybe Rotterdam, the singer is from that area. It depends on what venue is available mostly. Ahoy Rotterdam has hosted the junior one back in 2007. Heineken Music Hall (Amsterdam) did it in 2012.

Sweden was complicated?

North Macedonia was. Loved by juries, rightfully so, but not popular among the public. I was not surprised by that.

I don't mean that the jury necessarily likes complicated songs (I wouldn't have a clue what makes a song complicated anyway), just that their reasons for liking or disliking a thing probably involve a bunch of weird music vocabulary that's complicated to me.

If I still had a shred of faith in the UK, I would ask the BBC to call it a day at the Song Contest, and focus on other parts of the Eurovision and Euroradio network.

I would prefer that the BBC stop embarrassing themselves in front of our continental friends, giving our EBU membership a bad name in the process. However, that does not mean that the BBC cannot provide backstage help to the Song Contest, because helping other broadcasters is the whole point of the EBU.

Long story short, our artists have different ways of finding success, and pinning their hopes on one song contest in May is not one of them.

I remember reading it was only £250,000 for the UK to enter each year? That's an immensely cheap price for a program pretty much guaranteed to get decent ratings every year.

Definitely not because Eurovision is so heavily politically motivated, having 4 countries backing you despite how good or bad the song is really does help.

Well I lost the bet on the positioning I thought the UK would get 23rd, I think I was being too much of an optimist. Though I draw several very important conclusions.
1) Europe doesn't like us
2) We are liked more then Germany apparently

I heard something really funny a few days back apparently according to someone the reason we keeping doing badly in Eurovision is because of Brexit. Though considering we haven't done well since 1997 long before the vote I found that hilarious.

Though I am glad the Netherlands won it I did like the song.

I posted this before voting started; I was referring to the fact that they almost always put out good, memorable songs, not to their success in terms of points.
